I know it is not the most sought after frame / fork but I picked this up and now I have the choice to make...to build or not to build....

I originally thought I would hang it on my son's wall as decoration or in my office but I would really like to see this built up. I know there are both schools of thought, the...it is only NOS once, and the build it and ride it that is what it was made for.

Either way I am going to start collecting the NOS pieces over time so if it does come the time build I will have the parts.
Brian P
slap a headset in it and display it.

dont keep it NOS, but dont fully build it.

I would hang that sucker on a wall. Instant art!
bluedyno
Well, you already unwrapped the downtube. Might as well build it.
oldschoolrider88
build it and ride it like you stole it!
Jeff S
Build it and ride it. What fun is it as a display piece? You will always be able to look at it later on whether or not it's been ridden. Go enjoy it!

Jeff
BOB-O
first thing i would do is build it.
second thing i would do is ghost ride it..... biggrin.gif

Ah, my favorite Sport color combo.

Build that sucker and start shreddin'.
radlad1
I'd leave it NOS. With the money you're gonna end up spending on NOS parts, you could get a really nice complete to show and ride.

DUDE.

Go '88 with it, all the way. Meaning.. BUILD it, and ride down to 7-11 for a Big Gulp. Don't forget to LOCK it though, lol. Hopefully they still have something like.. Operation Wolf or Double Dragon in the back. Then, ride home, hit some tricks along the way, then and play some NES or watch a movie on VHS after you get back. Instant summer, 1988.

:-)

I'd build it, for display.
subwax
Buy another one, and build that up - leave this one as it is.

You will only see this NOS once - as soon as you biuld it, its no longer NOS. Like Brian said, bung in a headset and leave the bugger as is.

Just keep that BB wide open, or maybe install new chrome bearing cups into it, to help tie in the dope new chrome headset you're gonna slap in.
BOB-O
so, if you put a headset in, is it still NOS?
87PC
To me and probably most, no. It will be and 88 frame and fork never built, only had a headset installed....
SAF
Hey, I have the same set, NOS with the matching NOS bars too smile.gif

cycleace
Give it to me !!!
iluvretrobmx2
Can you post a pic of it completely unwrapped?

I wanna compared it to my 2006 Sport Remake!

How much does the frame and then fork weigh?

I will get a weight tomorrow.

Now hang it on the wall out of reach of the kiddies! Now that's art right there!

I know the mob has spoken and you've already decided, but if it was mine, I wouldn't be able to resist building it. I could wait for all the right NOS parts to gradually come my way, but man, I would just be so driven to complete the thing. It would just be impossible for me to leave it as a frame and fork set. I would also be tempted to ride it lightly once I got it built -- around the block or something. I'd leave the hard riding for my new school bikes, but I just wouldn't be able resist pedaling it down the street a bit. And OK, maybe an endo or two. But that's me. I'm weak like that. smile.gif

Congrats on that frame, and I hope whatever you do with it makes you happy.

I agree with Subwax. This is only NOS once. Keep it NOS. You have plenty of bikes to ride, this one is too good not to preserve as NOS.

I recently found a restored 85 Sport that I had as a kid. I thought, man I'm going to build it like I had it back in the day and ride it. Then I realized, I would just start beating on the bike that was just restored. So I decided to keep it restored like I had it and I ended up buying an 87 Sport to build as a rider. Worked out for me. I still have something cool to ride, but now I have a piece of "my history" in my collection.

Once again, it's only NOS once. How many more can there be like this? You have a rare gem, keep it that way. Everyday you look at that on your wall, you'll be glad you did.

Right now until I figure out the best way to mount it it is sitting on top of my TV cabinet at the foot of the bed. It is hard to resist building it but I do have new school rides to beat on and my white 85 Dyno Compe to cruise old school on so no real need to put it together any time soon.

saC - you and Lee and the other guys need to come out to ride one of the Lodo rides we have been doing. Good times, couple hours of riding then a beer or two at Fados.
DemonGT
when you figure out a way to mount it let me know, i still havnt figured out anything for my NOS gt frame/fork
