Thinking also of the Standard Bars, but make a few sets into the V bars on the top tube? what you all think!!!

out of curiosity, what would it cost to duplicate a 1987 kuwahara bravo team frame with thicker dropouts and an integrated headtube? (its a twin toptube design) maybe also an inch longer than they originally were.... but same exact geometry?

so what do you all think?
honestly? imo, the gusset is a pretty decent idea, but the frame is way too low slung for the longer headtube. looks a bit odd.
i'd like to see what real 26" version of a 125r would look like, though. could be a nice alternative for the singlespeed riders. i'm sure it would be more appealing than a surly.

I was thinking the same thing, the low slung tt's are great for younger riders who seem to have the urge to take their feet off, and nac nac, can can, spin kick knack flip and whatnot, but us older guys for the most part like the nostalgic look of a slightly taller frame in a 26 retro I would think.. I love the american BB and gusset. I have a k26 and to me its almost perfect, but the drops are too thin. If I was placing an order Id be looking for a slightly taller frame, but everything else looks great to me. I really dig the way you guys are breaking ground here. Consider me a Standard fan, that is until I can find the discretionary income to be a customer

THANKS FOR ALL THE KIND WORDS.
We have made the taller frames for other 26" customers but that this customer specified "aggressive modern geometry and style".

How about a run of some sort of three bar? Hasn't been done in production, too my knowledge. Either a Thruster tri-power or Powerlite three bar. Something 26" tall for easy riding, with euro bb, available in chrome.
Anybody else up for a small production run?

My SBC 26" cruiser with SBC Bottema style fork and bars will make its debut at the Rockford bike show. After that pics will be posted here. Stop by and lets brainstorm on other SBC cruiser ideas. I do like the idea of a taller tri-bar frame also, MCS Magnacruise style? Yes the SBC staff is the best! TK

Powerlite three bar or Thruster Tri Power. 26" in either. My preference would be a Thruster. Frame and fork combo. Anyone else interested?

Jun 2 2009, 06:49 PM
Thruster by far is the best looking!! Come on we are ready and stoked to make a batch of these!

Jun 3 2009, 10:28 AM
tri-bar anyone?

Jun 3 2009, 01:50 PM
How about a mix of two unique designs, like the tri-bar with RRS style rear drop outs and eccentric bottom bracket. I had an RRS BITD and still think it's one of the most technically cool designs.
nvmyslowride
Jun 3 2009, 01:54 PM
The more technical they get, the faster the price goes crazy!!

OK, I will be in for a 26" three bar frame of some sort. My preference is a Thruster or Powerlite. RRS would be fine, too. Nick, if you can announce a price estimate it may help to solidify some buyers. We can work out specs when we have a few commitments. Frame and fork, powdercoat, chrome, or raw. I know we have many variables but we need to have a starting price point.

i just noticed that those frames might be so low slung because of the shape of the dropouts that were designed for the 125r© frames.
looks really well made.

Jun 16 2009, 01:09 AM
Won't those braces by the dropouts interfere with the chain?
Greyryder
Jun 16 2009, 01:51 AM
Nah. They're far enough outboard that the chain will go right past them. That's well behind where the chain should be crossing over the stays.

I love it! I think it's great that this project is going on. I'd like to get one myself, but wouldn't be able to afford one for a while. Being born and raised in Iowa, I've always wanted a Standard. A custom retro 26 would be awesome.

First off, working with SBC and Zeigler have been a great experience !! I have several retro 26" cruisers. I wanted this one to have modern geometry for jumping but to have retro accents for a cool appearance. I wanted the 5 1/2" headtube because I am 6' 3" tall and like a tall front end (back in the day all of my 26's had the 5 1/2" headtube, cooks, kos, om ...). Went with the american bottom bracket because I love the Profile Evolution bottom brackets. Low slung top tube is for handling and jumping, this will be countered with a longer seat post. I usually ride standing up.

Nick, I've got an idea for Standard that I think would probably sell pretty well, at least with the older retro guys, like myself. A 1" microadjust chromoly layback seat post. Something with a similar bend and dimensions to the old GT posts. I've been looking for something like this for years, they don't exist. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I could find one.

Ill pass on the idea, ideas are always welcome
