Jimmy! That's a fantastic picture. Just as I thought, I bet I haven't seen any of yours. Wow! I don't have any pictures of my mother at the track, she was the only one taking them. And yea, shes pretty pregnant with my sister. WAY too cool. I can't wait to see more.

QUOTE (JaysMom @ May 11 2009, 08:21 AM) *
Jim: Love your picture. I don't look like that anymore! Neither pregnant nor young and slim. LOL

That should be my ID picture here. Can you do that, Jay?

I can edit the picture to isolate your picture then send you a link to it. Then you can edit your profile to use it. When I get it edited and posted I'll call you. I can't edit your profile. We'll get it done.

QUOTE (JaysMom)
Mongoose story: As Jay told you, the whole family chipped in to get him a totally inapropriate bike that cost a small (at that time) fortune. So he had very little else under the Christmas tree. He was only 10, and he lasted through the board games, a model, and clothes before he finally got upset and stormed out. He thought better of it and came back--BEFORE we gave him the bike. Then he found a dollar bill in a walnut and all was well.

I tell my Mom about this place and she posts a childhood tantrum story about me. I'm in trouble now. I'm really glad you got on to see this stuff Mom. drinks.gif

I'm going to try to get more pictures posted tonight or tomorrow. I'm just about half way through what I have in the albums. I have a box of old pictures from my mom, and there may be some in there also.

JayG
Awesome Jimmy! I'm still going to call you Jimmy. tongue.gif You'll always be Jimmy to me. drinks.gif When I get to the end of my album I have the full picture of the Orange Bowl.

Some more Orange Bowl news articles...

YMCA West Palm Beach Starting gate. There was no starting hill. It was just a plank and a guy holding the board with a bar. smile.gif

BMX 84 Newspaper copy. I can't even find myself in this one.

Even with the TANK of a bike Mongoose I still seemed to be able to jump 32 years ago. I wish I could do that today without crashing. I don't know how I didn't loop out on that, but I used to do it all the time. biggrin.gif Youth is wasted on the young. wink.gif

More to come.

Maybe I didn't lose my chain. I don't know. It looks a bit hairy looking back on it. Of course I used to be gonzo crazy back then anyhow. <shrug>

You and Jimmy and all family are always welcome here at Casa Del Gallagher. Just give me a couple days notice (per momma Gallagher) and your familys are welcome anytime! I spoke to Jimmy tonight. Seems that I can't call him without it turning into an hour long conversation (my fault) but my heart swells with how great it's been to catch up after all these years!!!!

I don't do mountain biking. It hurts too much. LOL! But I live 15 or 20 minutes from Alafia, so you can use this as a home base anytime. drinks.gif I've got room for 10 at least so your family's are both welcome anytime... with a couple days notice per momma Gallagher. Actually you could show up at my door step anytime and you won't be turned away. wink.gif

That article is dead on true. My mom had a mustang II, which was a very small car. It could barely hold 4 people, let alone 6 racers and a driver. OY! And we probably listened to Kiss Live on 8 track the whole way from Boca to Ft. Lauderdale. LOL! I used to drive my mom nuts with Kiss back then. The car had 8 track and it was the only place I could listen to it. From columbia house. smile.gif

West Palm Beach. Notice the guy holding the starting gate. No hydrolics. And no starting hill. I'm on the far end. The other pic has my sister in it. lol! She loves her big brother. Cool. She is 9 years younger than I am.

And the last picture I have in my photo albums. I still don't know where I am in this picture but I know I'm there. This was everyone holding up their trophy's at the Orange Bowl. I may have some other pictures, but I'll have to search to find out. I know Jimmy has a bunch more. I can't wait to see them.

That's way cool. A few months back I posted on a Florida topic asking if anyone remembered Mike Duffey from Sarasota. I just saw his 9-10 novice results and called him. He finally checked this site out, and has a box of pictures from Florida during this era. Expect to see them soon.

That's awesome! Very cool. Definitely post them here. I got out a box of old pictures yesterday and I have some more. The one I found was the original picture from the front page of the paper that I posted earlier. I'll have to keep searching for more.

Alice Bixler is still very active in the NBL. She's the state clerk. Tampa is our home track although we race Sarasota and Riverview as well. I hope you son likes it enough to get into it. My kids weren't sure they wanted to try it when I first took them to the track to watch. Then they got on the track and 18 months later they're still doing it so I'm pretty happy about that.

Good luck, and can't wait to see the pictures and articles. drinks.gif

I think I have the same trophy from the same race somewhere in the attic. It was at a oval car racing track and the BMX track was set up inside the oval. It wasn't hyatt park. It was someplace else. I think mine is bigger though. I got first in that. I don't think I had anyone to race against and I raced another class, probably yours Jimmy.
