Guys, I am an old school BMXer that is trying to get back into the sport. I ride my road bike to work ever day for fitness more than anything and obviously use cleats. I have yet to try clipless pedals on the BMX track and I was wondering if anyone knows if the road bike experience should help me with the transition?

I know the actions are probably completely different between road bikes and BMX, but I am thinking that the fear factor of not being able to put the foot down around a corner might be lessened after my recent years of road bike riding. Here's hoping anyway.

Has anyone else been through this fear of clipless pedals in BMX?

Tried riding 'clipped in' on my work n back ride - can't do it, just don't like it, I was more efficient on climbs etc but they're not for me.
Sold my road bike, grabbed a hard tail Giant MTB with DX style platforms and I'm loving it!

I can totally relate and my two bits are that I was faster coming out of corners on my '02 DK when I raced it after a 25 year hiatus from racing BMX . More speed for the doubles which I didn't clear sometimes on platforms . I have ridden clipped in on road bikes since about '84 and mountain bikes since '92 and I feel faster on clips . Try 'em and see , only you will know . I street ride and do training laps at the track with platforms on the DK but when the money is down ... click click !

Hmmm... Thanks for that guys! I will give it a go next time I go to the track. I might pad up that day! biggrin.gif I suspected that what you meant with getting better lift over jumps was the case.

I have been using the cleats on my roady for about 2 years now and have managed it pretty well. No real incidents. It's just that a set of shoes and clip less pedals for BMX are not really that cheap, so I didn't want to waste the dough!

I just started using them, went to the track for practice last night. Let's just say I realized a major change in my riding. biggrin.gif
