Wow very nice - check out that NOS chrome!
Bars appear to be Pro size.
Check the frame serial number - a '4' will indicate it's a Pro size frame.
Do the forks have the square holes in the dropouts?
Insteresting to see they were still using those decals on 85 frame sets.
Let us know what the serial number is - I am assuming it's an early 85.

Thanks - yeah, it's a pro according to the serial number and box.

SWEET!
I am going to find you a nice picture.

That's really cool, thanks for posting. I assume the "GT BMX" decals are on frames that were purchased as frame-only?

That seems to be correct.
Complete bikes had the 'TEAM SERIES' or 'PRO SERIES' decals (or the freestyle versions).
Frame sets just had the GT BMX 4130 CR-MO decals on the frame.
These differ from the pre-84 decals which of course have the SANTA ANA CA instead of 4130 CR-MO under the GT logo.
My 84 GT Pro frame set has the same decals as your 85 frame.

Very nice.
I have been wondering about the decal situation on the mid 80's GTs.

So did the top tube go to the slash cut from Jan '84 Andy?

There's nothing like good chrome...

Apr 30 2009, 07:25 AM
Hexavalent chrome almost no longer exists. A few special car restorers do it, but it's supposed to be bad for the environment.
Trivalent is what you mostly see now days.
Did I learn that on here? I may have.

for the love of all thats bmx holy, Id build a plexiglass climate controlled box for it, well that or coat it in twenty bags and then encase it in a solid block of PH neutral grease....
if you ever take a tool to that, he'll stike you down, you know that right, if not that, then may you be cursed with slow leaks forever if you ever think of building it... ;-)
Ive got 2 perfectly good kidneys here, I never drank, and I exercise plenty, if you ever need a kidney, Id love that frame...

another set of NOS GT pro bars! These are knurled, and the others are not. Oh, and NOS Superlace hubs

we don't expect details of the score like names and places but a little follow up would be tops. Like, " I was at work the other day and this dude and I were talking os bmx and"
How did you find this. I do go to garage sales all the time now looking and all I see is dyno's, Kent's, Huffy's, etc,,,,oh yea, "Next"
I wonder if in 25 years kids of today will be collecting "next" bmx bikes.I highly doubt it but who knows. I guess we do collect some of the old department store bikes like huffy right now so maybe the answer is YES, maybe the nicer model, if there is such a thing

Well, I met someone through BMX Museum that had a stash of NOS GT frames and bars. I got into contact with him and we worked a deal on the frame/fork, and two sets of pro bars - which was the last of what he had. The stuff is flawless, never even removed from the plastic. A really cool find - I won't build them though.
