Hey Craig i have a nice space for a GT cruiser,if its not claimed let me know and some more details if you can. I was just at the bike shop yesterday checken out a pk ripper and maybe a bike for my boy.

Hey Jim,

My wife and I have been planning on heading up for the South Park National this year. If I can get the bike-I will bring it with me-I imagine the shipping would be outrageous.
I will call them tomorrow to get more info and to make sure they know I want it.
Is Bakers Bike Shop still around-if not when did it shut down?
Is your son following in your footsteps and racing?

Take care,
Craig

That would be great. I haven't seen any of the old BMX crew since I moved in 86'-wow it's been a long time-25 years.
It's been so long I probably will get lost trying to find the track.

I thought that I might have a little trouble finding it too, since I had not been there since the 80's. I met some old schoolers out there. I could of found it blind folded. I was like a kid on Christmas morning. good2.gif

Bill,
I can't wait to see the track again. I know what you mean when you said seeing the track again felt like you were a kid on Christmas morning.
Even though it has changed, I can still remember what it feels like when the gate would drop and you hit the first jump, around the first turn and up the step up, than down into the second corner and into the table top, hitting the triples into the third corner and down the last straight over the speed jumps and to the finish line. I can still hear the announcer calling the race from the tower. Every little detail of that old track will always be with me.

What did you think about the changes? Did you go home and dust off the redline?

Take care,
Craig Allen

I was disappointed with the track. It is very tough. I thought that I could get back into racing pretty easy, but the sport has changed and left me in the dust. There are some guys from BITD who really fly on the track, but I'm not one of them.LOL I did go home and dust off my Torker.

Damian-
I think most of us are planning on being at the South Park National.
It's been a long time since South Park has had a National #1 rider if ever. So we will be there cheering you on.

Question Old Schoolers-

I know Loper said Matt Harris who had back to back #1 plates was a South Park local-can anyone else confirm that. Was Matt Harris from South Park?

Take Care,
Craig

I will search the net for a picture of the bike and send you the link. It was a newer bike know more than a couple years old.

Take Care,

Mark,
What a great article and piece of your BMX history. There was nothing like opening one of the BMX Mags back in the day and seeing your name listed in the National results or a picture of your motto.

For those that don't know and are interested-Mark has copies on DVD of the entire 1982 South Park Grand Nationals. Hopefully he will also transfer the 83' and 84' South Park Nationals to DVD and offer them for sale.
Mark-this advertisement will only cost you one(1) 1982 South Park Grand National DVD.LoL
You definitely had South Park dialed in back in the day, your consecutive perfect scores certainly proved that. Your right, there is no track quite as special and so rich in history as South Park.

Craig Allen

Sure Craig.....Iwill make you a deal...LOL! Actually I only have a handfull of copies left....so anyone that wants one....and once their gone....their GONE!

Thanks Tom--

Do any of you all remember the very first bike you raced at South Park?

Mine was a 170lbs yellow Pro Thunder.
I actually had to have a hernia surgery after my first race because of that heavy bike.

Craig

Craig...the races I have available are-

1981 NBL grands from St. Louis Mo.

1982 NBL grands from south park Pa.

1983 NBL grands from Nashville TN.

I do have other nationals on old vhs tape from over the years but have no plans to make them available at this time. I made copies of the 3 grands listed because so many people were interested in getting copies. I did it strictly because I got tired of hearing people beg me to make copies...LOL! Seriously I never did it to make money...just wanted to let people get a little peice of history that I have been holding on to for the past 25 years...

What's going on Damian?
What nationals have you raced lately and how did you do?

Craig

sjaquay
I am a local since about '86 and I can name about three past national number ones. Most recently, Dave Bittner in 2006 won the national title in superclass. Also, Ian Olson won the 15 or 16 cruiser title in '95 or '96, forget which year. Lastly, Jennifer Wardle won the 16 girls title around '93 or so.

Sjaquay-
Thank you for your insight.
I'm glad to hear there was more than just one National #1 from South Park. South Park has had so many fast riders that I'm surprised there hasn't been more.
I see you started racing in 86, that's right when I quit.
Are you still racing?

Take care,
Craig
