Just picked up a Diamondback Viper to restore for my son. I think that it a mid-eighties model but I'm not sure. I've tinkered with old cars but this is my first bike project. My plan is to strip it down, strip the paint, replace the bent fork, and repair/replace whatever other bits need it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to learning from this forum.

Welcome b4ford to VBMX!!! biggrin.gif

Does that bike have a serial # on the rear dropout?

A great reference site for Diamond Backs is:

welcome!

large gusset, chainguard tab should make it a Viper from 1983 and prior.

Found os-db right after I found this site. That's where I figured out that it is probably an '83. Sorry about the double post of the picture, can't seem to edit my own post and fix it. Here's the 3rd pic that I meant to post.

If the weather is nice here in PDX tomorrow I'm going to strip it and inventory what parts can be re-used and what needs replacing. It's my understanding that this isn't a very valuable model so I don't plan on doing a 100% period correct restoration. Just want to make it a good cruiser for my son.
