Hello,
Picked this up yesterday.

Frame top bar is 16.5" from center of the seat post to the center of the neck. Original paint with matching steel fork.

Has BMX Innovations stickers on the fork. Frame has no Serial Number.

Anyone know how to tell the differemce between BD3 and DB4?

How rare is it?

Thanks

Steve Bourke

I believe they are Leading Edge Forks Not Cycle Pro Made By Skyway, That would make it very early mostlikely DBIII most of the DBIV Had Cycle Pro Forks. Where is Mr Hays When You Need Him?

The frame is a BD3 from 1978. The forks are Skyway Tuff Fork. These forks were only offered for 6 months in 78-79. This is only the second set of these I've seen in SE colors with SE decals. SIMPLY AMAZING!!

BTW, SE frames didn't "come" with forks. They were sold seperately.

Pretty rarified air right there. Congrats!

I knew that something did not sound right about what I said (Leading Edge) It Was Tuff Fork. But I got the main stuff right Thanks Brian I knew you would correct me. The Fork is a dead give away to the frame.

Thanks Brian.

Oh WOW.
So no restoration?

Leave the frameset like it is?

Is it worth building up with period correct parts?

Never going to ride it...Way 2 small

You are one fortunate man!

Where do you guys find this stuff? Amazing.

My rarest item is a round top tube PK Ripper - I was lucky to spot it on ebay a few years back, but this is something else.

Ya, that frame and fork in original finish is a STELLAR find. Leave the original paint and decals. Those forks with that paint and decals are rare as hens teeth.

Mark, you were thinking leading edge Race Inc forks probably.

Here's pics both ways. The first three are mine. The last pic is from the OM's personal files.

Wow! I thought the forks were brown with blue decals at first glance! That's a lot of rust! Still. That is a super cool score. Dang Mang! What state are you in? Where did you find it? Spill the details!

Forks are blue paint but scraped evenly on both sides. Both decals are there. Each about 90% complete. Rust is just on surface. Might try oxalic bath but all the great

comments have me pretty spooked now, so I might just leave the rust.

Had no idea it was this rare. When I went to get the bike, I was a bit concerned with the forks since I was expecting Landing Gear. Not concerned anymore.

Frame has a few scratches and dings here and there but dropouts only show signs of one installed wheelset and maybe a chain adjustment. They are clean. Seat post

has been pinched in slightly (had a Schwinn clamp when found). No cracks. No decals.

Anyone have a list of specs for this bike?

Oh last thing...the beans!

Michigan bike courtesy of CL. Bought it from 2nd owner who said he had it for several years. He raced BITD with the original owner and got it from him. Always

intended to restore it but never did (lucky there).

MICHIGAN!!!! huh.gif Detroit area?

P.S. I think the forks actually look cool with rust. Don't do Oxalic Acid...I'm not positive, but I don't believe it reacts well with paint.

I thought the real early frames had a intergrated seat clamp and a smaller diameter seat tube

It was in Kalamazoo. Drove over from Detroit Subs to get it.

You might consider using CLR - it's a household cleaner (Calcium, Lime Rust!). I cleaned up some chrome forks with it pretty successfully. It's a household cleaner you can use on faucets (chrome), so, I gave it a quick test, and then moved on after it looked OK on the backside after sitting overnight.
