As part of the agenda, we have several opportunities for people to have their bikes professionally photographed.
I have not had one inquiry asking "tell me more on the studio photos"
After last year, that was one thing people asked for, so we put it in.
Is this one of those things that is interesting in concept, where everyone says "yeah, great idea" but nobody actually lines up for?
Let me know, as I have a photog lined up, and soon have to put up (the money to reserve the date) or shut up.
I know Muxter did it in a year past, and it was a hit. This would be similar, so please speak on it.

M

I think it would be awesome to have some great pix of my bikes. I'll have 3 or 4 with me, would there be like a sitting fee, or fee per bike, or per picture?

I'd give it a shot too.
Will these be MEGA-high resolution pics?

Of course I would not expect anyone to commit without knowing the details. But, in the words of Tony Soprano, "Nobody said nuttin."
Now I know there is interest, we'll get it rolling.

Does anyone remember what Muxter charged years back, and what he provided for the fee (just a download, or download plus a print, etc).
Thanks!

Mux charged $45.00 to $50.00 and gave a disc full of excellent high quality shots in 2 different file formats.
I supplied the white paper backdrop since he didn't want to fly in with it. It cost about $35 to $40 for the roll at Lion Photo.
Mux did fly in with the Camera's, lighting, backdrop tripod's and everything else needed. The shooting was done Friday early afternoon in small open hall inside the Clock Tower near the back/side door. I asked permission at the front desk informally after we already set it all up. ;-)
Here is a sample of his work:

Cool, that was about what we were thinking, but I wanted to make sure, cause if it was much less than that we might have had to bail on it.
We're looking at $40-$45 for a "two view, " shot (side and front, offset). Detail shots may be a few bucks extra (like if you wanted extra shots of the cranks and stem...which everyone will not want, so we thought we'd make them optional). Instead of a CD, we'll have a site from which you can download the images after you're back home, or from your laptop. Photos will be done at the Clock Tower, probably in the room adjacent to the Hospitality Suite.
More to come!
Best,
M
P.S. How did he hold them up? Did he do it like we used to with bike tests in the magazine? Someone holds it, and counts down 3-2-1 releases their hands, *POP* the snap, then catches it?

The fee seems fair and appropriate Mike ...

We might want to consider the use of a nice bike stand (Believe me, the old trick, requires many shots to get a decent slide, and removing a whole person from the background "like" I did at the studio requires lots of photoshop)...
We can probably get a cool and inexpensive custom made stand...

Or maybe try something like this...

Is just a matter of knowing the public's choice, but can be arranged

Those are some hyper-trick stands, Juan. Who's making those? Or are they custom for your builds?

Heres a pretty simple one that I cut the "triangle" section out of and added some protective boots.

Hey Mike, those stands were mad by Chip at C4 Labs!
Claude, that is a pretty cool idea for those stands. I use those and I think I'll try that with one of mine for my pit bike because they are too big, the loop gets up into the freewheel. Very cool mod!

Thanks, its not exactly as sturdy as with the triangle, but definitely sturdy enough for pictures

LOL! That would be fun, huh Tom?
I remember being all nervous wheeling my bike down there, I didn't know anyone other than Paul Smith and Bill Sympson. I walk around the corner and who's getting thier picture took? Oz himself. I was acting all cool. Ha! I met Greg STRIKE and Boone that afternoon.
That was a total blast that afternoon, it really did feel like summer camp or something. People were passing through the area to go to 1711, people we checking in and freaking out... 100% rad.

Mikko, I remember that!. And talking to Suzie Q for half an hour was really cool too! We built her a bike after that.

As for the catch and grab photo's, they were no sweat and created a clean standless shot.
