Looking at getting a 24" cruiser to ride, with my GF while she's on her mountain bike. I don't want a mountain bike, refuse to get one. So 24" BMX cruiser it is biggrin.gif. Don't want to spend a million bucks on one though. Been eyeballing the Redline MX24, Haro's 24's. Any other suggestions? I want something I can ride on river trails, bunnyhop a curb, jump a launch ramp, etc if I want. Is this a acheivable goal with a 24" cruiser?

Thanks
Steve

I was kinda lookin at the Redline MX24 but, According to the Redline website, Only the "main triangle" is 4130 Cro-Mo for 2009. I've been on the lookout for a cheap used '08 or older MX24 with the full 4130 frame. MCS Magnum or SE So-Cal Flyer may do the trick for you.

Do you have a preferance of steel or alum? Looking at completes only or a build? Are you avg height? The supercross completes look like a nice set up to me for a 24" cruiser, also SE has a ton of bike options, (even the big ripper 29"er, you could show everyone up on the trail with the biggest bmx bike ever built...) Have you thought about picking a frame and buying a build kit to keep the price in check. In steel I would look at standard and S&M I think they'll survive more years of "launch ramps" than some of the alum bikes. Dont forget the 24" "park bikes" that are built pretty solid for a good price. Check out Dans comp...

I'm 5'9" 175ish. Brand preference? None really, except a Hutch XL24 and that ain't happening. Complete or bike, either way I'm fine with. Steel or aluminum either is fine, probably steel for strength issues. Do you think the aluminum can hold up to what I want to use it for? Just don't want to spend a ton, due to already spending enought gathering parts for a Hutch I'm building now.

Last year I became interested in racing. I went and checked out a few races and decided on getting a cruiser. My wife was also interested in trying some mountain bike trails. I've always been into dirt jumping, and hitting the streets. Like you I needed a multipurpose bike, racing, street, jumping and trails. Also I didn't want to spend a ton of money. After looking around online I decided to go with a DK General Lee cruiser. I have abused this bike and have had zero problems. It is still completely stock. I bought an extra 14 tooth freewheel that I race with, but for trail riding with the wife I use the 15 tooth that it came with. I had no problems adapting to the 24inch. I am now better on my cruiser than my 20. Its faster, more stable in the air, and a smoother ride. I would have to say the best $300 I've ever spend. DK stopped making the General Lee in 2008 but have a few other models of cruisers that I'm sure are even better.

I was kinda in the same situation you are... I was into BMX in the early 80's, got out of bikes when I started driving, then drifted back to motocross and bicycles. I've had a couple of mountain bikes, a pre-WalMart Mongoose and later a Specialized Stumpjumper M2, but they were never really fun like the BMX bikes were.
My thousand dollar Stumpjumper still has the original tires on it 5 years later. Hah.

I just picked up a cruiser and for the size and style of bike I wanted, it feels pretty "right".
One thing that bugged me with the mountain bikes was the flimsy feel all the chain clanging over rough terrain, and the 24" single speed feels totally solid. I love that.

I started with about a $200 budget looking for used bikes on Craigslist (not much that wasn't junk), and quickly realized it wasn't going to happen and upped the budget. I then looked at the Haro X24 which was around $350, but didn't really do anything for me, though I can't say there was anything wrong with it either. It was just A Bike.

The bike I decided I wanted based on reading stuff on the 'net was the Intense Race Pro XL. I think that was in the $400 range, and still looks like a lot of bike for the money to me.

The Free Agent Ambush was my low dollar pick.

I shopped around local dealers about getting the Intense, but had no luck. The first guy I went to told me he didn't stock a lot of cruiser stuff but game me some brands which he could have next-day. One of them was SE. I was pretty blown away by that, just because of what SE was in the 80's.
I got some prices and told him I had to read up and would return. I looked at both the OM Flyer and the Floval Flyer and opted for the Floval. Basically doubled my original budget, but I really like the bike.

I gotta admit I'm used to the feel of a motocross bike and I feel very top heavy and far forward on a BMX or mountain bike, but I'm acclimating much better to the cruiser than I ever did to the mountain bikes I've had.

Just got my FitBikeCo CR24. Anyboby have suggestions on how to make it more Cruiser like?
The seat is low. I hope I didn't purchase the wrong 24 for me. I also just wanted something to cruise around town on and just really liked the look of the Fit. Can I put a longer seatpost on it?

Having the seat slammed seems to pretty much be the new deal. My bike has a pretty long post, but even up it puts you in a forward, race position. I'd love to have a layback that'd make it easy to ride wheelies while sitting in the seat to entertain myself while bombing around with my kid.

Basically, I'm curious about your question, too.

Really liking the Redline lineup. This is a older model RL544, can it withstand what I'm wanting and my weight(175lbs)? Just wanting to make sure it's not a junior or anything of a sort.
