Bought a complete 86 Sport over the weekend and I thought there might be issues because the headset was loose and the previous owner said they "didn't ride it much" like that. Anyways, My suspicions were right. The side facing the frame is pretty flattened out due to rubbing on the Hatta bearing race at the top of the headtube.

Can this be welded up maybe and re-tapped?

A headset nut threads all the way down and put with little or no play but I'd still like to get it back the way it should be.
