Full Version: Anybody have any stingray projects?

So... I had a customer in my shop yesterday, and he brought with him, a green stingray with the classic quilted top bmx seat and some very old school BMX bars. It sported an old stp sticker on the back side of the front fender and looked very, very cool.
Unfortunately, this was his "lowrider project" uh! ohmy.gif
I was able to score the seat and bars from him and tried to get the whole bike but... I guess it wasn't meant to be.
Is anybody out there doing a stingray BMX project?
I think this could be my next "thing" to keep myself busy... like I really need another project!

I would like to get some feedback from some of the guys around here that used to race BITD when stingrays were popular for racing. I didn't start racing until 82' and I don't remember... um...maybe one person that I ever saw bring a stingray to the track.

Any cool pics of your Schwinns? Post em up! popcorm1.gif

You know...I'm kinda thinking of making a Stingray my next project. I recently got 2 from an old friend of mine...one he bmx'd out when he was a kid. It has a few salvagable parts but the forks are TWISTED...he also gave me one that was almost complete except dismantled...I might clean this one up and try to bring it back to its former glory.

In my family since new in 1974. All original 'til a couple of years ago when I added the BMX conversion stuff. The seat had a big ole "STP" sticker in the middle of it before I re-covered it in suede. Bars are early 70's Yamaha enduro.

I have a 68 Coppertone that I cruise now and then and a red one, not sure of the year on that one.
The Red Baron
I bought this 'as is' just last year. I have a set of MotoMag 1s I was thinking of putting on it. Then all it would need is a paddad quilted solo seat and it would be just like my first race bike.

I hesitate to mess with it because it is so nice as it is.
COASTY
We never got them down here but we did get the same style of bike made locally. Unfortunately they never had US BB's. This is a late copy I used instead. Oneday I might grab an older frame. It has black OGK grips now too.

Yeah! those are great bikes! I have a feeling I'll have one built before summer is over. Can I see some more pics? This is where it all began isn't it? BMX stingrays are classic.

That's a great one! where did you find that number plate?

I know I started this thread about schwinns... but I just had to throw this picture
here back into the mix. It may or may not be a schwinn, and I don't know who
originaly posted it, but it's rad and the banana seat is in full effect!

I'm lovin' all the pics so far... anybody have anymore!?

That's actually a one of a kind 1975 custom 26" Redline Squareback. One of the first cruisers class style bikes ever made. I think Rick Twomey took that picture. It was apparently stolen from the owner's garage... sad.gif

Thom Lund said this about it: "Bob Phillips bike made by RedLine, the rider is Stu Thompson's friend Bobby Watts."

These might be some of the best pictures I've ever seen...i love these old bikes. No nothing about them. But love them.
