Yes these pads are Repo's, not sure exactly whether that logo was put on these like this BITD..and the pads are slightly larger in size too...You can see the frame pad has extra padding .. sad.gif
I have a few sets of Nos Camo's to which i was thinking of using...

Looks great.

I remember the first one I saw in the flesh at the races was around '79 - '80. Light blue - some tike was burning up the wee track behind Everybodys Cycles, Massachusetts one weekend.

Sadly, I only had a CYC Stormer MX with bubble gum spot welding. Nice Tuff I's though.

Fantastic.

Why can I only upload 500k of images? dry.gif

It's best to put your pics on Photobucket or a website somewhere. After doing that, right click on the pic you want on here and click properties and highlight the url to it then right click and hit copy. Then come here and select the insert image icon above the box where you reply, 4th from the right. Paste the url to the pic in the little box that comes up. That's it. Your pic is posted. If little box don't come up, then go to top of your page and click to allow images. Then do this over again.

Hope this helps. That 500k thing runs out quick.

When/where did you get that?

I've owned this RIPPER since '84 my first real race bike. It's been sitting in my parents garage for the last 15 years.

Are they Patterson Forks.??
Pretty sure my mate has Ripper mini forks 4 sale??
ripper185
That's a good question. I've had these forks since the mid 80's they have Invada Pro Am stickers on them , can't remember if Invada made these forks or not. Do RIPPER's have different forks to PK's? My brother's RIPPER has landing gear forks I thought they were the same as the PK's.

I have a question for this group. I have a late 70's / early 80's "Ripper" that was gently used. It has no cracks or rewelds the original blue paint has a few shallow scratches and the corners of the decals are a little frayed, but all in all it is in better shape cosmetically than my kid's 3 month old race bike. Is it better to just disassemble it, clean it up, and replace a few missing parts. Or should I stip the paint and restore it to a new appearance?
ripper185
It's been suggested to me I should leave my RIPPER as is , battle scars and all , I think this is a good idea. This may not appeal to everyone but each to their own. cool.gif

Well said.
Your bike, your choice...
I would say clean it up and assemble as is first..then see..Sit on it for a while

SE Mark
There are 2 different Landing Gear Lites One Was made at SE The Other Oversea. The Way you can Tell is the Welds On The Dropouts. The Top Weld on the inside Does Not go all the way to the top of the dropout then they are made oversea. If It Looks Like It Wraps Around from the outside and starts running down the inside then they were made at SE. And Also The Welds Are Much Cleaner as SE Always Did In House. This is how all the LG Welds are that were made at SE. On The Mini LG Lite's I had a set about 3 yrs ago and I remember that the Stack Height Was Smaller Then Regular LG. I had a NOS Set That was Never Cut But Would not fit A PK Headtube it was short by about 1/2". I believe that the mid 80's Mini's had a Smaller Head Tube (Not 100% ).

Your right about the length of the top on the landing gear lites as ive bought those forks of JMCGT and i put them on a mini race inc and they were short like you said.I put the gooseneck right down on top of headset and left locknut off to make it work.So far no dramas cool.gif
84pk
The non loop mini ripper that came out in the mid 80s had a shorter headtube by about 1/2 an inch. I think it's 3.5" This frame did not come with the "race version" of landing gear...landing gear lites. It came with mini landing gear. The fork blade diameter is even smaller than landing gear lites. The pic above looks like mini landing gear to me.

There are 2 different versions of landing gear lites. I have both. The early version has a thinner dropout and 3 holes. It also had the clear sticker that said LANDING GEAR Lites. The later version has slightly thicker dropouts. Can't remember if they have 2 or 3 holes and the small die cut landing gear decals. I have and nos set that WAZA hooked me up with. The dimensions are identical on both sets except for the drops. I have no idea on the years of these though. I was thinking 85 for the second version but never really thought to ask until now.

If anyone is interested, I should have pics of all this.

-Mike

PS... PLEASE DON'T REFINISH THAT FRAME. I think alot of us in our early days powdered and stickered bikes that just didn't need it only to regret it now.

I would love to see those pictures mate.I think your right about what forks ive got because of the short headtube.Like to see what the stickers look like. This is a picture of where my Landing Gear Lites ended up not sure if its a ra8 or 7 anyhow its a mini.Click to view attachment
JMCGT
Your right Mike, I also have the early Lite forks and they have 3 holes in the dropouts..
both sets were Nos.. The pic above is the 85-86 version which i have found even rarer..
ripper185
Wow only 2 pics of rippers. I remember there wasn't many getting around BITD but I thought there might have been a few more pics. ohmy.gif

JMCGT
Waza has a nice Ripper too..
ripper185
I put my bike together the other day with some new parts including new school pad set (which I think are crap) Hopefully my OS set are stashed at my parents place somewhere. They live 5 hours away so I haven't had a chance to go look for them yet. While I'm there I'm gonna get some pics of my brother's collection of bikes (he's a bit paranoid about posting pics worried_anim.gif )http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3420/3976772938_937fcb3d5f_m.jpg Pic didn't work I'll try again

Thats a cool survivor mate. Nice job.
