I have been busy of late, recreating all the bikes that I have owned and raced in the past.

My new build is my race bike from 1984 a candy red Curtis Pro, for those that don't know Curtis is a bike builder over here in the UK. This is virtually identical to the bike that I raced, except on that bike I had Cooks Bros cranks, however I wanted a bike in my collection with a 1 piece crank.

+2 That is just too cool. At first I thought the forks may be bent then I noticed the lugs arent in front., and the head tube is great as well. Dig the deep red color too.

I really like that build. How popular were those in the UK?

Yeah... great bike. The rear dropouts do look like something off of a newer frame. Curtis must have been able to see into the future! Nice! good3.gif

Nice build.

I had a few buddies over here in UK who had Curtis bikes in the early '80's.

Curtis frames were quite unusual at the time, they were made from Reynolds tubing and were brazed rather than welded. I was always a little suspicious about the brazing for a bmx. As a technique it creates a more flexible but unfused connection between the frame tubes which has always seemed odd to me, as does lugging for a bmx.

What do others think - I'm sure there are some fabricators/welders here?

I think MRD's (Tim March's company) also brazed their frames. Both Curtis and MRD had that nice low slung look - a bit like a Patterson frame. Very elegant.

Wow, beautiful bike!

As stated above, looks way ahead of it's time and much more like a modern bike than 1984.
