That would be my guess judging by the headtube andthe juncture of the top tube and down tube.

Sting Comp?
vonmark01
depends on how the seat tube meats the bb
Lpbmxdad
i was just looking at the museum and it dose resemble a 1980 Schwinn Sting
vonmark01
it dont look braised so newer than 82/83
DanThrift
Schwinn Sting. The "ovalized" top & down tubes and the 5" headtube give it away.
Lpbmxdad
in your opinion how much is this bike worth if he wanted to sell it?
Ted Carl
It's a late 80's Sting, or Black Phantom (That doesn't sound right, but it had another name in the late 80's, my mind went blank, nothing new.).

All the original Stings had a 1 1/8 seat post. That appears to have a 7/8 post and notched rear dropouts. Which means it is a late 80's Taiwan made Sting. It used to be black. Black clear coat over chrome. A "black chrome" effect. Kinda like an old DB had.

Nowhere near the value of a Paramount built bike. I see them on the bay frequently. More later if needed.

Somewhere near '88-'89.

Your thinking of the Black Shadow.
Ted Carl
Thank you! Yes. Black Shadow. I only mention that, because I believe they were the same frame with different decals. But..... I am going to stop at ...."I think so".

This is most likely what that bike looked like when it went home from the dealer.

Still a collectible. Mid school.

We don't discuss values on the site. The original hand built Paramount Stings are always considered the most valuable of all the Stings. But if someone is a Mid Schooler, then the one you have there may be just the one they are looking for. Therefore, they are all worth whatever someone will pay for it.
FaithBMX
I had a late 80's (I know I was riding one in 1987) Schwinn Black Shadow and then I had the Schwinn Sting of the early 90's (I think I have a photo from 1990 ABA Grands).
They were the same frame; bi-ovalized externally butted tubes.
Ted Carl
Funny.

We take the time to help you out, and tell you what kind of a bike it is.

We take the time to tell you that it is a late 80's Sting, and then narrow it down to an "87-89 vintage, and even show photos of how it looked originally in the '89 Schwinn catalog.

We take the time to tell you that it is a collectors item, but that it's not as valuable as an original Paramount built 1980 Schwinn Sting.

....Then it shows up on e-Bay KNOWINGLY mis-listed as a 1980 Schwinn Sting, in attempt to trick someone into paying too much for it. And after we did this favor for you! scratch_one-s_head.gif

You're welcome! Glad we could help ID that for you as a 1987-89 Schwinn Sting.

There is no, Oops here. No, typo here. You are trying to sucker someone, using the knowledge we gave you. ... Only now you are lying about what you learned, to rip someone off for personal gain.

Lame, lame, lame. Liar, liar, liar.

Funny how it looks just like this 1987 that is listed correctly.

Lpbmxdad, you are a complete tool! Please do not come back on here, this site does not need crap like this!

The person that listed the item on ebay wasn't and isn't lpbmxdad. I only listed the bike from the information that was given to me and the listing has been changed. I am not an old school or mid school bmxer. Sorry for the incorrect listing as I say it has been changed. Don't blame lpbmxdad or me it was an honest mistake which should have been clarified before being posted but like I say I listed what was given to me. These are the numbers that were found on the bike. Right side drop out g0686. Left side drop out 6169238.

Was Lpbmxdad the one who gave you the listing information? If not I apologize for calling him a tool, if it was my comment stands!
