I was always more into stuff like New Order, Depeche Mode, and The Cure during those times. I've always liked them when I was skating or doing flatland on my bike.

A couple more good ones that my friends and I rode to were Suicidal Tendencies and Living Colour.

stabbing westward was a cool industrial sounding band in the mid era, kinda NIN influenced. cool story about those guys. i worked in a local shop in RI and one day some guys came in and we were just talking about cycling mostly mountain bikes. they were looking for some powerbars and we were out of stock at the time so, seeing that they were really cool and we were into the same stuff and all i mentioned i had some in my locker and that they could have it because i had a good stash of it for myself. i had no idea who they were, but looking back should have had a clue. as i did listen to them.
little did i know that the guys were actually stabbing westward and they were playing that night at a local club. long story short they put me on the guest list and we went to the show that night for free and they were really cool. see it pays to be nice.

I think of "Mid school" as '85-'92-ish, but maybe that's just me..
Whatever new stuff showed up on "Headbanger's Ball", "120 Minutes", or "Night Flight"
