Hey everyone, I recently purchased my bosses old Mongoose bike (for $11 ha) and I'm really looking forward to restoring it back to its (somewhat) original state for riding. As you can see he took a can of neon orange and green to it. The original color was black. You can see original mags in the pics as well. What would look best as far as painting the frame. Should i strip it and get it airbrushed/professionally painted or even chromed out? Should i try to find original stickers? Any tips or ideas including the exact model/make and original pics of one of these would be great!

Is that a lathe?

Ill def be listing the serial number monday night after I bring it home officially. After some research i think i might have a special edition 81' on my hands!

thanks volcano, and as far as it being nickel plated...im not sure yet J
and machinist lathe it is (though youd never get me near one haha)

Im def gonna lean towards the black and gold scheme i think.

thank for the info!

Painted black sounds good to me good3.gif
Original painted finishes for the gusseted frame where black, red, blue, white or yellow - so black would be a faithful resto job.
I think it will work well with the gold motomags and yellow accessories you have - and check out the links posted above by Volcano for inspiration, information and the best reproduction decals money can buy ! good luck, and nice catch cool.gif

Thanks bobafett. I was able to inspect the bike closer today and the serial number is: G135710. I'm def going with the black color scheme. It will look great (like it did in 81' ha) with those gold mags. The back rim is a little out of whack so Im tempted to part it out but considering how rare the gold stem and other hardware is I must bring this back to life haha. Ill def be doing a post about the restoration once i get the body and fork stripped and painted. Woohoo!
