I TRIED TO PUT MY HERRINGTON CRANKS ON BUT THE BOTTOM BRACKET IS MILLED JUST ENOUGH TO EXCEPT STANDARD CUPS, MY HERRINGTON CRANKS HAVE CUPS THAT SIT ABOUT 2 1/2 TIMES DEEPER. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME I AM SCREWED ANY SUGGESTIONS?
ARE THE CRANKS DIFFERENT YEARS THEN THE FRAME?
monocoquemike
The cups that are on my cranks are standard size...I have seen three different bottom bracket setups on the three different sets of Herrington cranks that I have seen...If Chad does see this thread, I'm sure pictures would help...I will bring my bottom bracket to the Indiana show this weekend so we can compare...

Sometimes companies do odd things for cranks....I know JAD cranks were sold with bearing cups even though you press the bearings right into JAD frames and you don't need cups...I would guess to market them to other frames...maybe that BB set was intended for bottom brackets that were milled all the way through?? I have two herrington frames, so I know exactly what you are saying about how the bottom brackets are milled...

Is there a bearing code on your bearings?? I know a bearing supply company and can pretty much get any size bearings I need if I have the bearing code...then maybe it's just a matter of finding a standard set of bearing cups to press them into which would be easy...

PM'in you my # incase you don't have it anymore...Feel free to give me a ring...

Mike

P.S. Maybe that bearing set up isn't the original to the cranks? Is that possible???

3rd gear
I will call ya.

Did you get it figured out Brett?

Mike, translation is as follows; {nsra65} is a dumb poop poop poop, I say again, poop.

*edit* For the record, the above statement didn't read "poop" when I wrote it. Take it for what it's worth but I still think this guy is a tool and should be banned for being such an idiot.

He trolls the boards with his stupid Redline Cruiser B.S. None of his posts are worth reading. Unfortunately, he wastes my time everytime I come across his uneducated babble. Even worse? I am now commenting on it. I wish he would take his unintelligible nonsense and GTFO.
agentheinz
Maybe he wants to buy a Next cruiser now.

LOL....

here is the BB in Question.

That's a crazy BB...It looks like it will spin as smooth as butter once it's installed though...I would say take it to the machine shop and mill out the bottom bracket...The bottom bracket will still be about 1/4 inch thick...It'll be a pain in the azz but it'll be worth it in the end...The bikes gonna look great when you get those cranks on there! cool.gif

Zup man. Sorry for the delay.....don't read these sites often. My cranks do fit my frames just fine. Every set of my cranks, that I've seen sold in the last few years, have had some kind of after-market bb. Can't view any pics so I don't know what you've got! pm me if you want

Here are the pics of the bottom bracket that 3rd has...

ChadHerrington

Yeah. Not my bottom bracket. I used a really simple, no bearing, design similar to PMC. Later I removed the bushing and did sealed bearings. The problem was, at that time, the bearings alone actually cost more than the cranks!!!! I will try to post a picture in the next day or so.

Let me know if you happen to have the bearing code for the sealed bearings that you use....I have the PMC type sleeve design and wouldn't mind having a sealed bottom bracket for them...

Cool. I'll get to it by sometime tomorrow. Need to take my cranks off the bike to see if there's a bearing number or code on them. I used the same cups that worked with the bushing. Needed to shave an extra few 1000's, off the ID, to make the bearings fit though.
Package went out today via usps. You should have it in 2-3 business days. Didn't know if you had the original star, for the cranks, so I put one in the envelope with the stickers. One of my last spares in the box O stuff!

Tried to upload a pic of my bike and it doesn't work. No matter how small I make the file it still says it's too large?

Here are Chad's Crusaders... cool.gif ....

The complete bike, is the one, I've been riding for the last 12 or so years. Crusader II frame, S&M slam bars, We The People original stem (my design also), Trinity cranks, Odyssey sprocket and brakes, GT pedals, PMC clamp, junk 48's and hubs and junk forks. That bike has been thrashed, beyond belief, and is still going! This is not counting the few months I was on the Diamond Back team in the late 90's. I always liked, the ride and look of, the Crusader II more than the Crusader I frame. The wider back triangle, of the Crusader II, made it a stiffer ride.
I'll add more later.
ChadHerrington
The yellow / black / green frame is a, race version, prototype, Crusader I and weighs about 4.5lb. It wasn't heat treated properly and cracked after my first jump! Wished I could have rode it for more than 5 minutes!!! The teal frame is a Crusader I. This is the frame I want to build but will probably repaint it first. I'll most likely build it with my original prototype 5 spoke spins, landing gear forks and Trinity cranks. Haven't decided on the rest of the parts yet. Would reeeaaaaallly like to get a small mill-laithe combo and make some of the little parts.
Thanks again to Mike for posting the pics!

Chad didn't you have PMC's on a bike when you did that cover shoot (no footer on the cover I think)?

Pretty sure that's why I bought some PMC's back in 94-95ish. I remember when purple was no longer cool, I used ovencleaner to get rid of the anodization.

Ah, the good days...

Chad definately ran PMC's back in the day...He used to work for PMC...Here are a few pics for evidence smile.gif haha...

THE titanium bike

My crusader II that is believed to have been built by Chad himself...

That sucks that you stripped the purple anno off your PMC's...IMO, the annodized parts with original finish are worth way more than polished sets...

Mike

Ah, that's it.

As for stripping them. Eh, I was 15. Made sense at the time. lol

Yes, lots of PMC suff. Mike got it right. I used work for the machine shop, run the pro team and ride the parts! Long time ago. After 6 years off I've been back on my bike for exactly 2 weeks now!! Been riding my very last crusader I. As of about 2 hours ago I'm now awaiting the arrival of my new Diamond Back set up! As much as I like my Crusader, it weighs 33ish lbs. My new Diamond Back will weigh around 24 lbs, be slightly smaller and have tighter geometry. Thanks Diamond Back!!!! I have a lot of NOS tricks (went for them but never perfected) that will be much easier to do when the new DB arrives. Looking forward to riding again. Thanks everyone for the support!!! cool.gif
bosshogg
That is so good to hear Chad! I hope you like the new bike.

Each and every one of those pictures is giving me jealous fits of rage. I shoulda never sold off my PMC stock! Oh well, times a changin so I guess it was for the better.

Either way, I would love to get ahold of some PMC or Trinity cranks to use on my Downhill Bike project. Mid-school definitely takes the cake for coolest parts and ideas.

I am still going to hound you about not having any of those cnc'd shin guards though. Maybe we could colab and get some made because the chance of finding a set is slim to none.

In any case, I hope everything works out well!

You'll still need to buy the sealed bearings and fit them to the cups. Should be pretty easy though. Take it easy brotha man.

Very unique build. I really dig everything about it.

And a few pics of him jumping for the first time in 5 years...sickness!

Thanks Stephen and Bosshogg!

Zup Freshmale! Those are one of the first-five prototype thug sets. No sealed bearings.

The pictures of me jumping were taken at an elementary school show. The first time jumping in nearly six years! My legs fealt like jello after pedaling so much. Been riding for 3-4 weeks. Much easier to clear the jump and bust some style now!
