you can get foil tape at a hobby store..same thing...Michael's

The original stuff is Mylar - same type of stuff used for ribbons that you can buy at Michael's.

That's kinda extreme, but you do need something besides the ribbon for sure. I've always just used a regular rubber rim strips after the ribbon and been fine.

BITD we used to use handle bar tape, the plastic kind for road bars. Just make sure to have 2 layers, or else the strip will bulge through the holes. tons of colors for that custom look.
