Hey guys,

I've had this pic for a while I think I scanned out of a magazine) & I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this particular bike?

I assume it's Avanti....but what year? Specs? Who raced them?

Any photos or links would be ACE!!!!

Cheers

Mick

Anyone???

Looks alot like this GT concept bike from 1997.

Hey Sundance75 - That GT does look close to the Avanti...

Anyone shed any light on the Avanti? Would love to know more biggrin.gif

There is nothing current day or past 10 years pursuing any Points Race or leisure on the Resorts looking like that.

The best I can muster is a fledgling effort to gain acceptance for this variation of frame configuration.

Different yes w/ variable RW suspension, but like I had said.

SoftRide

Outside this I would like to see FLEXX H-bars adapted to MTNB. Reports of a Euro DH rider making way, but nothing public to read for the past year +.

I found out what the frame was...a New Zealand made "Keewee Cromo-eight" (which was badged up as an Avanti).
It had a modified seat (MX style saddle)...although Im unsure of the year it was built.
Thanks the Joe-bag-O-donuts (Gav) for the info! good2.gif

Has anyone actually seen or ridden the Avanti with the Motocross style seat?...would love to see some pics or know any info on it... biggrin.gif

Mick this was a ONE OFF make, Avanti had this made for their big debut at the 1997 Interbike trade show in Vegas, it was a huge success than was shipped to Australia for the Aussie trade show, Avanti, a NZ based company planned on using this Bike as a promo tool for the brand, the bike was sent round the country being displayed at Avanti dealerships, it then ended up at a close friend of mines shop where it remained for a good length of time, this particular store was at this stage Avanti's largest retailer & was awarded the bike...

I just spoke to my mate minutes ago & wil take some piccies of it for me & email them up, "YES" he still has it & it is still never ridden & OG....

I raced MTB in NZ and remember this coming out, only ever saw the moto seat version above in mags though. You're right - Keewee originally made the design (as a successor to their k98 frame) without the moto seat and the design was bought by Avanti and rebadged as the D8.

Get in touch with me if you want to know more, I may be able to put you in contact with a few people involved in all this who would know more...

Hi - stumbled on this old thread and thought I would comment. I worked at Keewee building all the D8's for Avanti. When I started, my first job was to polish the carbon Moto seats on the three show bikes (as pictured above).

The three bikes were for display at the 1999 Australia Bike show and Rob Metz (one of the designers) rode his one at the National DH series.

No more were made with the moto style seats, but there were about 250 D8's made for NZ/Australia markets - I worked on every one of them while I worked there. We also made a few bikes for the US market which were debuted at Vegas Interbike 2002 but they were a different design
