Full Version: Questions about original redline forks

I'm looking for a couple answers here from the Redline experts about the first forks.
1. Where in the line did these come in? I think these were the first but I'm not sure. The stickers are repro's FYI. There is no brake hole in the fork.
2. It's obvious to me that the steer tube is bent. But did these forks come made with any rake or is this all the result of some smooth landings?
3. Can these be repaired to at least resemble what they once looked like? They are on a survivor bike, so I don't care if they are pretty or not.
4. Finally was the next version of this fork the one with shorter legs, where the drop outs just about met up with the bottom of the fork blade?

Any help would be appreciated..

yeah, the longer leg extensions are the early ones. your rake (from the welds down) looks about the same as my second gen, so i think all the bend is in the steerer tube.

i'm sure there are a bunch of ways to straighten that. if nothing else, a bike shop that dealt with road bike repair in the '70 and prior might still have the tools to do it, if you can find one.

Thanks, that is what I was hoping to hear. Woody.

The only thing I see bent is the actual steer tube, the rake is the same as my early forks.

And yes the second gen forks have the fork leg even with the bottom of the drop out.

Definitely a bent steerer tube. You can see it plain as day. Someone was hitting pretty hard, those were pretty strong forks for BITD

a 1/2 bath? Is that seriously the best photo shoot backdrop you could come up with?
