Being a kid from small town Minnesota to living out in Los Angeles was such a thrill! To be riding with the tops guys like Martin it was so cool! To see a ton of energy, innovation, and love for Freestyle...the Chairman was just that! Thought I would share some clips of him shreddin' it up at the first show of the '87 GT tour in Huntington Beach.
Enjoy!

Very progressive moves, done in 'the chairman's' own style. Inspirational JD

JT, do you know where in HB that show was? I'm just curious because I lived in HB near the high school for a few years.

22 years later and a ton of gnarly crashes...I honestly can't remember the streets but always remembered Freestyle shows. Glad I could preserve some history with the footage and yes, Martin made a positive impact for Freestyle!
Maybe brakes will come back in Flatland today so they can do some no handed Miami hop-hops and quadruple decades???
Maybe if some of today's riders watched some old school riding it could inspire them to create some insane new or variation of old?? Flatland is infinity and that's what makes it so fun, totally creative with your bike!

Martin is a great person and an incredible showman. He was great with the younger crowd. One of my favorites from the 80's.
Thanks for the video. It brought back some good memories.

Those old school tricks look way better to the average crowd.. You throw a Miamie Hopper or Bar Ride down,,,, Crowds dig it... So do I..... Somebody needs to put together an old school show for Rockford....

Certainly one of the all time best. I think he was a amazing bridge between the very first freestylers and the Kevin jones' of the world. I truly think anyone who rides flatland need to know about MA and appreciate what he has done.
When I think of MA, I think of those cool GT ads and of course the no handed Miami Hop Hops!!!

I started in 86. Over the years i learned most of the trix that where modern. Martin was always my idol cause he made every single move looking so special. I still do my backpackers, hitchhikers, deathtruck and cliffhanger combos mostly every day but i lost most of my oldschool trix. Riding without a rear brake made me lost them. I is so cool seeing MA doing that stuff. Made me looking for a vintage Gt again. Someone in the OS-bmx forum meet MA last month in the Vans Skatepark....
