Still looking for some cranks and pads, and good advice on how to clean motomag II's..... Bought it on ebay for $26 and shipping. Dropouts were almost perfect. Was white (and chipped terribly) originally (don't see many white ones from back then). So I made it white again.

Very good work!

Did you use OA? Is that an '80?

I'd have to doublecheck the Ser. #....it's a '79 or '80, can't remember. Chemically stripped it, then sandblasted prior to powdercoat.

Rob has one or two white geese in his collection, couldn't find the pics on here.
because of that i did a beat up motomag in white powder.
no regrets on going white.

i have a set of nice mongoose stamped 1 pc cranks and snowflake but i need to inventory the nephew's bikes for upgrades before i pass it along. i'll check with you if i get rid of it soon.

There are many different options for cleaning your MM11's as you may know. It all depends on what condition they're in.

A couple ways I've done them:

- straight soapy water, nylon brush scrub, power wash/rinse
- store bought aluminum mag cleaner and power wash/rinse
- Mothers
- Media Blast with Soda (must be gentle media only)
- soaked in an acid bath (Citric Acid Powder and water in my case), then hand polished

MM11's aren't that hard to clean up, it's the MM 1's that are much more difficult and require some different methods.

Here's some that were in the worst condition I'd ever seen. These were soaked in a CAP bath and had some hand polishing:

My motomags don't look anywhere near that bad, just a little rough to the touch and dingy looking.

Nice January '80 frame... wink.gif

Yeah, those were nearly the worst Motomags I'd ever seen. Yours probably only require a good power wash and some minor hand polishing. Mothers works really, really well if you haven't tried it already... I use very small dabs, rub until black and then rub the same spot again with a clean part of a soft cloth or shamy until it's shiny. Small areas at a time works best. Mothers always amazes me and it works great on Nickel, Chrome, Copper and Aluminum.
