Full Version: A plea about duplicated images in [quoted] post replies
VintageBMX.com > Announcer's Tower > Announcements Heard By All

I don't know if I'm the only one who has noticed this, but...

If you respond to a post using the quote feature, please remove the [img] tags from inside the [quote] tags.

Otherwise, the original poster's photos get duplicated in your reply, which doesn't add anything to the thread except loading time.

Thanks!

+10. Although, I've been guilty of it a time or two. biggrin.gif

Glad you posted that Dave. Sometimes, when i see a post like that, I'll use my Admin powers to edit the post and remove it. But yeah, it would be great if people could do it on their own. Same goes for replies to long posts...quote only the point(s) you are responding to. Finally, it is recommended that you place your reply at the TOP of a post instead of after the quoted text.

I fully agree with the rest of this thread, but this one has me scratching my head.

On almost every BB that I have been on the quoted part goes on top of the reply, that way when you are reading the reply you are reading it in context. Mike, when I come up on your posts in the Racing forum they make no sense at all until I scroll down and see the quoted part after I read what referenced it.

Replying at the top of the quote does make sense in private messaging though. In a one on one conversation the reader is familiar with the context.

I definitely agree with Headsnap on this. The reply has no relevance until you see the quoted text, so why not show the quoted text first?

i gotta say that i always put my text below for sake of flow also

Well, in many of the tech-world boards I belong to, they force the "quote-on-the-bottom" style because, especially if it is a long post being quoted, the user may think "oh, I've read this already" and skip it. The assumption is that you are reading the thread as a contiguous block thus, stylistically, the quote does not need to be there at all if it is replying to the most current post.

In the case where it is not the most current post, the quote is there more for reference, again, assuming you are reading the thread and just need to get your "bearings" of what is being discussed.

If putting the quote below the response is outlawed, only outlaws will put their quotes below their responses tongue.gif

Have it your way...just like Burger King.

Best,

M
