Can someone please explain to me the whole "skateboard only" policies at city-owned skateparks and why everyone -- especially skateboarders -- are so uptight about them?
I mean, I just don't understand it. Why not just let everyone come in and have a good time? Just because some guy is on a vehicle that is different from yours, how is that taking away from your enjoyment of the park? Let the guy on the bike have his fun, and let the guy on the board have his fun. Everyone smile and shred together.
Instead, I hear of whiney skateboarders always calling the cops on guys with bikes. I just don't get it. I guess most are just acting like a bunch of spoiled kids. We have our toy, and you can't play with it.
To me -- and I'm sure to most of us -- I wouldn't care if a guy is out there on a razor scooter, as long as I, too, got to use the park. To each his own. I just don't get it.
They claim we "ruin the park". That claim is wrong and one that can be put to death if all BMX'ers started using plastic pedals, barends and the new all plastic pegs called plegs from G-sport. The other excuse I hear a lot from non skaters (city council memebers, police, mayors etc.) is that we move too fast and carry way more momentum hence we are a rather large danger to others. I see their point but I feel the amount of danger is grossly overated. Can ya tell I have had these discussions before? What really bothers me is how a large segment of the skaters have turned into the "jocks" and now look down on everyone else in the action sports community. It used to be they were in the fight with us, now they fight against us so they can remain at the top of the chain. Note I said a large segment...not all. I do know some very cool respectful skaters.

As for his neck, the article is correct. He was standing on the rear wheel of a dune buggy out in the desert and did a back flip off the tire on to the sand. Only problem was he clipped his feet on one of the top frame bars when he was upside down and fell onto his head. He even drove himself home after that with a broken neck.....
Thanks you for the info Woody. I was wondering about that. I was a huge Blyther fan back in the day. When he was on the ramp all you heard was the bbzzztt of the tires. He was soooo smooth and always landed so high on the tranny. I was in awe.
