Here's one for all you Hutch guru's out there. Did Hutch ever make a Judge that did not have the seatstays welded lower than where the toptube meets the seattube?
starchild
my hutch judge 2 XL has the seat stays above the top tube. i can post some pic's if anyone needs to see for reference.
Apollo
Original gen 1 series Judges had seat stays that met the seat tube below, around the middle of, and very rarely above the top tube. My persoanl favorite is when they meet below the top tube. The gen 2's seem to be mostly above the top tube or in the middle.

Apart from where the seat stays meet the seat tube, how else can you identify a Judge from other Hutch's?
Apollo
Double thick drop outs on the frame and fork. The down tube is 1 1/2 " in diameter compared to 1 3/8" on Pro Racers along with the top tube being bigger at 1 1/4" to the Pro Racer's 1" in diameter. The head tube is thicker if I'm not mistaken.

post some pics if you can.

the tubing size is the best way, like mentioned above. once it became Hutchins and the "Judge 2", not all of them had thick dropouts.

One Hutchins catalog describes their frames as having thick drop outs (not just the Judge)

Thick can mean many things... My Judge II drop outs are thicker then the "old" standard dropouts, but not as thick as the Orig. Judge. Atleast on mine.

I'm pretty sure the Judge has a steeper head tuble angle than the Hollywood.
Apollo
Head tube and seat tube angles are both steeper. Brett's pic of the seat tube junction is my favorite seat stay/top tube placement. That is killer how low the stays are. I have passed on auctions and sales of Judges because of the placement. I think the head angle is 74.5 or 75 degrees compared to 73 degrees on a Racer.

i remember (have) that ad.

i don't know how things worked with them. i have a Hutchins "Pro Racer" that has thick dropouts, a Hutchins Judge II with thick drops and 2 other Judge IIs with thin drops.

i think all the Hutchins forks that ever came thru our shop had thick drops, but frames were hit-n-miss.

Also, the top tube is flared where it meets the seat tube, similar to the xl 24. I'm definately no expert on Hutch's but I remember that detail on more than one first gen. Judge.
