I have an old Tange Fork here that has a leading axle and the legs are somewhat ovalized / aero, and I was wondering if anyone on here knew what they were. cool.gif

no pic?

pics!

The legs are not the same diameter from top to bottom?

They made TX 500 leading axle forks and TX1200 and a few more models I probably forgetting. Any TX-________ something???

Sounds like an ARX, but we need to see a photo.

The top fork tube has Tange OD on it, and the legs are equally oval from top to bottom.

That fork is in my opinion the best fork tange made. It's the TRX. Oval legs. Leading axel. full cro-mo. They even had some trick fork stem technology. About 1984 after my diamond back turbo forks choppered, i put these on my turbo and never had another fork problem. The old school mag ads said "it's whats up front that counts".

Thanks everyone. I have a Robinson, about 1980 (flat gusset with the RRP decal only, no depression for the sticker) that I was thinking about putting them on until I can get some regular Robinson forks.

I have another set of Tange forks for it now, but they are the earlier straight forks with no leading axle and just the pinched ends where the axle mounts.

Which would better suit my Robinson build?

Thanks again.

The Robinson is a race bike. In my humble opinion the trx is a better match for a race bike than your tange 1200's. Bitd 1200's were used more on street/thrasher stye bikes.

Somewhere on here (from a year or two back) is a multi-page Tange Fork thread that went from the TX-100, TX-200, TX-500, etc. all the way to the TRX, ARX and everything in between. I think it may have shown all three versions of the TX-500 (straight leg, curved leg, and leading axle).

Most of my reference photos were lost when the VintageBMX.com picture hosting went down last month, but someone has to have them around here.
