Bike is in my possession. Big thanks to my brother Pete AKA Sidehackguy.
Story is that he's driving from work at about 45 MPH, he sees some cats selling oranges who happens to have two bikes next to him. He spots what he believes to be Redline cruiser bars. Decides to flip a U (which took awhile as there where no side streets for awhile) almost gives up and eventually comes back.
They start talking and he tries to make sure to his vintage BMX poker face stays on while scoping out both bikes. Having learned from his friend (who lost out on a Changa not knowing that they had cable guides) he asks if the bikes are for sale. The guy offers to sell him the other bike (some Magna or something) as it's more appropriate for a "little kid."
Peter goes "well, this one is for me" and asks the guy for a price. Guy goes for $25. Peter says that he only has a $20 and points out to the ding on the bars and the corroded spokes so the guys lowers it to $20. Peter grudgingly pays it but does not buy any oranges.
About 5 minutes later as I am on my way to LA, I get this crazy phone call on my cheesy pre-paid phone. Needless to say, almost all the minutes were ate in the conversation.
Bike looks in excellent condition. By the serial number it would be a November 82 model (?) 1182XXXX. Nice headset (OMAS?) MX-1000, 1/2 DXs with minty caps, Takagi 1 piece with a sealed BB (Tange?) Hutch 2 in 1 headset lock, Mongoose stainless bars, Suzue "Chrome plated" decaled high flange hubs, Ukai CP rims, SR seatpost, and granny saddle. (Oh yeah, a kickstand too)
Someone kept that thing clean. the arizona dry air was good for it apparently as the rust is surface only. It even has an old faded fabric VDC frame pad and the remains of a Terry Cable.
Anyone have any decals?
