***********Pics towards end of thread*************

Here is my first Cheeta and winter project. I'm not sure what direction I will take it.

2000 pro xl team line:

Seat and post are photo shopped.

Special Thanks to "Turbo" Todd Britton for the plate! Also, understand, this bike will be polished when done. I may put a trick paint job on it and it might not be what you'd expect.

That thing looks badass all murdered out!! I have 2 Cheeta frames, neither built up. One is the freetsyle version called the "Dab". And the other is the race frame in white. Been slowly collecting parts to build the race frame!!
Lonewolf
Get some pics and post up. I'm looking for an XXXL. Or an XXL 2002 and up.
Scot F.
Lonewolf, I know you have already seen mine. Maybe I was some inspiration to you getting a Cheeta! tongue.gif Actually, I know you like that polished Cheeta on bmxmuseum.com!

Anyway, here is a pic again.

Scott! I Love your bike too! I'm getting one as soon as I can find one, and then I'm done.
You can post this bike on any thread I ever start for the rest of time, as far as I'm concerned.

Your bike is bad A$$ and I love it!
Yes, I have the cranks and waiting on polished, Ti spindled, Round Pro Crupis!
Going to duplicate old boy's bike on Museum! Maybe with a twist.
Lonewolf
You most certainly were part of my inspiration, Scott.
Lonewolf
Ex-girlfriend came by and saw my new bike packing habit. She wasn't impressed!

That is quite the compliment coming from someone with the extreme talents that you have. Thank you... Honestly.

So much for being murdered out.

You must understand it goes against every fiber in my body to take a perfectly good powder, which is black, off a bike frame. Everything I do is black. -It was really weird.

Looks like I'm playing hooky this week and my winter project will be mostly waiting on the pedals to come in. This thing is gonna be done by tomorrow! The pic is what I've done over the last couple days. The Technique cranks were annoed blue. The chain ring visible in the collage, which will be used on the bike, is off a Diamondback Turbo. In fact, it's a 45T chain ring actually used by Harry Leary on one of his Turbos.

I love my new hobby.

Hey wolf,

What is that spray you used to remove the finish on the frame? I can't quite make it out in the pic. I need to get some of that stuff for some forks I have. Does it remove paint and powder coat?

Here's my sons expert xl and my latest score....Cheeta cruiser frame! Scot F., what kind of rear hub and disk brake are you running? Mine has a place to mount a disk brake. I have not decided to go with it or a V-brake. having a hard time uploading the 20"....file too large and I can't figure out how to change....I'm a slow computer learner.

Mine has a spot to mount the disc brake too, but I am not using it. I have never seen the bracket by Cheeta to use the built in mount. I have Phil Wood hubs with an Atomlab disc conversion kit. The Atomlab kit is basically two parts. One part that threads on to the hub to mount the brake disc to. It mounts to the side of a flipflop hub that you arent using. The second piece is a bracket that mounts to the frame, between the dropout and the hub. The bracket is what the caliper mounts to.

I bought it at Wal Mart. I'll go check, but all you need to do is read the can. It must say that it removes "Epoxy". That's what Powder is.

The remover is murderous stuff, too. Do it away from kids and animals, or where animals might go. I would suggest a lot of newspaper. Do not use Easy Off on aluminum, unless it is a small part. Easy Off will not touch powder, but will remove anno readily.

Those don't grow on trees.

I don't know what's wrong with me. I worked on my frame ALLLLL day, yesterday but for a Starbucks/autocross break.

I'm wiped out and can't move. I hit the wall last night at 1 am. I guess I still have a day left to hand polish. I made a jump from 120, 320, 400 grit to 800 and It might have been a mistake. I still have 1000 and 2000 grit left. to sand the frame with one specific grit takes about an hour. The aluminum on the cheeta frame is some hard stuff. It doesn't polish as easily as most aluminum.

I'm beat.
Lonewolf
Nobody cares anyway, but I made another staged collage since you guys like project stuff.

mannequinforce
Rad.

What I would give for a Team Line Cruiser frame. I have a set of KORE BMX disc hubs built up for just this purpose and Cheeta is/was the only BMX frame maker to make disc specific mounts.

I have a Redman Warrior Cruiser frame (Chris King Headset installed to sweaten the deal) if anyone out there wants to trade...
Lonewolf
For anyone interested, the pic at the top has been modified to include many stages and the latest stage of my polish job.

Wow... the step by step process of you polishing that frame is awesome. Can you post a bigger pic of just the finished frame? Please?

Oh yeah, you know ya' gotta show the finished bike when you are done.

Thanks,

Scot
Lonewolf
Thanks for the good word on the pic. Yeah, I'll put a bigger pic up soon.
PhotoShop takes about 4 minutes to open on my computer. I am already in the assembly mode. I need 5 chain ring bolts and a brain.

I'm wondering if I messed up a perfectly good black powder job.

C'mon wolf,

Let's see it! I am sure you have had nothing but time on your hands thru the Holidays. wink.gif

I just got back from work. I worked Christmas and friday.
Lonewolf
okay, work in progress. On the inside of the rear triangle you can see polish residue. By no means is this the completed product. Bike is now partially assembled.
Lonewolf
Click to view attachmentNew update on my bike almost no one cares about. It's okay. I was vaguely familiar with Cheeta but had not really focused in on them before I got bit by the BMX bug again. Eventhough I took a break through the 90's, I actually did buy a Redline and a Powerlite in the 90's. After seeing one a 2000 Cheeta polished on Museum, I had to have it. I knew that guy wouldn't sell, but liked it so much, I had to make one. It's getting closer. I need to go to the bike shop today to get long chainring bolts for multiple cogs. The techniques have a weird size. Waiting on the Crupi pro rounds to be made.

This was NOT easy and I'm still working on the lower rear triangle. That 7075 aluminum is hard stuff to polish. I feel like rocky because I keep getting beat down.

The silver wheels are those cool Oddessy things from a few years back. I took the silly flames off (no small task) and am attempting to polish them while assembled.
Lonewolf
Another pic to bump my thread! Don't worry, it'll be on page 5 again in about 10 minutes.

um, no. They look nothing like Cheetas, but lots of Cheeta purchasers were looking at PC bitd.

Not finished, but big pic:

The yellow portion of the seat is photoshopped, the cranks were moving when I took the pic, and the front axle bolt is actually red. I need a new chrome chain, and I need to finish the brakes. In the future, I will be looking to put decals on it and I am experimenting with a tasteful graphic scheme in my head, that will still show off the rear machine work.

I'm thinking of putting "Chester Cheetah" on the head tube.
Lonewolf
Okay, I'm now brain storming the Cheeta.

I made a pretend post on best racer build.

Here is my idea:
mxer746

found this thread and had to post my old cheeta pic again, they made a DS frame for a while there, it was a blast to ride.

Lonewolf that bike is going to be some good stuff. The 45T ring off Harry's ride will bring good luck too.

Dude, great picture. Do you not have the Cheeta anymore?

Also, if you told Harry ANYTHING from one of his bikes would be a "good luck" charm, he would probably laugh at you. If there was ever a guy who had more bad luck in his career it was Harry. However, Harry has chiseled his indelible mark in BMX history, so his legacy is more than safe.

Thanks for bumping the thread no one cares about.

If they knew how light my Cheeta is, they would care more.

The frame looks like a brick, but weighs NOTHING.

The other day, I picked it up, from the down tube as it was on it's back, to move it across the house. I could not believe how light it was.

It might be sub 20 lbs. without the chain.

shame you stripped the flames off of those rare T1000s. Dans Comp still sells the T1000 rims with a polished finish. are you going to strip the Blue Techniques too?
I am sure your Cheeta is sick but all of your pics seems to be deleted... I would like to see them. Your Diamondback was built to perfection, I wish I had the skillz and resources to design and produce decals like that. I like the Chester Cheeta graphics too, it ain't easy being cheezy... I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Kcmo, that was a very nice post. The check is in the mail.

Um, the Techniques were blue for about a day after I got them. I'm sorry if I wasn't aware of how rare flames on T1000s were. Neither of the parts gave up their finishes without a fight! In essence, they died fighting! No use crying over spilled milk, I guess. Plus, I still have the parts and now they look like I want them to.

The cheetah was black, The guy I bought it from knew I would take care of it, but he didn't know I was going to strip it.
