Great topic, I am sure Claude (mastertint) will be a great resource for this subject.

I have a frame that I am trying get the date for. One of things that peaks my curosity is the rear drop outs do not have the factory inserted chain tensioners and I have only seen most of them with the chain tensioners, any idea's?

Thank you ahead of time for any constructive information you are willing to share.

I have plans on purchasing every bmx mag down the line that was available during the cook bros era, '77?-'83, bmxaction/plus/bicycles n dirt, etc, to look for advertisements, photos & tests,,and putting together some detailed research in regards to what was available when......my buddy Joe that helped me complete my kit is interested in the "timeline" project also...i've got 2-3 cook bros catalogs currently, as well as a bunch of copied articles..............maybe for once we could come up with some solid info on their cranks/timelines etc...i've come across some strange info in regards to those........it will probably be my '09 project,,,,if anyone has anything to share, please do!,,, claude

yep, thats correct, but I think some factory race bikes had them before

Just a little bit of useless trivia:

I have the first CBR chain tensioners on my Billy McIntyre CBR team prototype bike. (circa '77-'78)

Bill told me that he kept having problems with his wheel slipping forward, so
he built some adjusters into the frame. They made it into the production bikes a
few years later.

Same thing for the slant stem. My bike has the prototype version of the
slant stem, too. Bill didn't like the way the CBR double stem put his bars
up too high, so he modified it.

He did get credit for the Billy McIntyre bars. The first set he built and
put on this bike have the dropped bar on the left side. He said he did it
because he was an ex-motorcycle racer and it didn't feel right having them
on the right like a motorcycle front brake.
