I know they have been available for many years but I have never used one. I race 36and over Novice and weigh in at about 200#(on a good day! Ha!) I was thinking about using one on my 2008 Quad that I am building up. Any one out there race with a BB adapter like this? I know many of you out there will wonder....why??? Answer is......just because. Thanks

tons available what cranks ya going with ?

I'd just use Profiles or Red Line flights and the AM BB that you can get for them rather than going with an adapter. If you absolutly have to have one I like the ones that press in with the 3 bolts and use the standard 3 pc cartridge BB

When they fit tight in the BB they are fine, but if you get one that is loose in the BB it will drive you nuts, and you could damage the frame if it moves around too much.
There are enough good sealed American BB sets available that I wouldn't mess with an adapter setup.

im not 100%,but if he uses a new new style of crank with the isis type spindle .....wont he have to use something like the fmf adaptor 3 bolt style adaptor .
thats why i asked what crank set up he was going with.

I have been thinking of running Saints on my DC quad. The stock cranks blow. I found a similar thread on the museum with this pic. Just in case you are thinking of going to DXR's or Saints. Which is my guess since Profiles and Flights can be used with American BB.

I ran DXRs on an older 125R with American BB+ adapter for a couple of months with no probs what so ever.

I have been useing a bullet proof cupset with DRX's on a S&M CHALLENGER II for over 1 year now. the bullet proof cups are machined so you will have a 68mm bb once installed. The FMF cupset will set you up at 74mm not a big deal if you use Saints. I have used both cupsets both ways both work no problems.

Not sure what the specs are but Profile and FMF make adapters. Still, since Amer BB are so readily available, unless you are running DXR/Saints, then why? Not too mention the weight savings between running Profiles and DXRs would be negated by the adapter.

Thanks for all the replies. Not sure what direction I will go but I appreciate everyone's 2cents....thanks again!

DXRs are 35 ounces. not the lightest crank. They ARE the stiffest. They do not move. They transfer power better than anything I've ever ridden. They are awesome.

I don't know what flex characteristics an adapter kit would lend to the situation, but DXRs are about stiffness.

I see. Still, I guess I just don't like DXRs. Don't know why, really, other than they don't look sexy to me. I love profiles but also really dig the Supercross, Odyssey's twombolt and Mosh Digitals. Really wish Bulsseye would make more of their 2-piecers.

Tell me more. What about the spider/chainwheel system? I imagine it is significantly thicker than your traditional alloy 5-bolt 3-piece? Seriously, not trying to be a smart [please review the site FAQs], I want to know more about these.
