As posted before I have a normal pro neck that was converted to an inverted/cruiser stem. I'd like to switch it back to a normal stem(and re-anodize it while it is apart). This fella' obviously took his stem apart. Is there anything wrong with this? And how would a fella' go about doing it?

Much happiness and prosperity to you all!

you can certainly take them apart and reassemble, but i don't know what all this conversion back and forth talk is all about (it's gone on for years).

the large diameter hole in the base that the shaft fits into doesn't go all the way through. you can't pull the shaft out and put it back in from the other side.

One of these days I'll get my MAC back to snuff so I can post some pics up here. My stem was born a normal, healthy stem, but somewhere at the dawn of cruiser technology someone converted it to an inverted stem. I've never disassembled it but I am going to soon, and when I do, I'll take some before and after pics. I'm crossing my fingers that no modifications have been made to it that would prevent its conversion therapy from sticking!

you would absolutely have to make a modification to reverse one from original. said modification would result in there being nothing to tighten the shaft-fixing bolt against. you couldn't actually tighten the shaft to the base.

the base hole is stepped...bigger diameter for the shaft, smaller for the fixing bolt.

the shaft can't fit in from both sides without drilling the larger diameter of the hole all the way thru to the other side.

if you have a stem that was converted, it is indeed very compromised.

Alright! Fair enough! Dang! Looks like I'll have to think of something different for my DG's lonely headtube.

Thanks Mr. Coasterbrake. I've been puzzling over this for quite some time. It's nice to have some closure!
