This was a MINT, all original 1986 pink GT frame and fork (flawless!) and Chip at C4 stripped and powdered the frame the same GT pink color. The bars were NOS but purple, and Chip stripped and powdered them to match. The bike is stickered as a 1985 because I feel they looked better. The GT Santa Ana decals are real, NOS and the Pro Performer decals are AJK repros, which are flawless. This is the first used frame I bought and it literally looks NOS in every possible way. This GT is super mint.

Okay, maybe I'm missing something here, but why would you strip a mint, flawless, NOS frame, to repowder it the same color?

Looks really nice though. I prefer those decals too. What other parts/colors you got planned?

thanks for asking that. i thought it was just me.

I don't believe it was NOS before stripping, but it certainly was mint.

Maybe he was going for perfection?

Personally I would have built it as is, but that is just my opinion. He certainly did it right by sending it to C4. It is stunning.

I don't understand the repaint either. As always great work by Chip, but he was probably scratchin' his head as well.

Very pretty. I like the '85 stickers better, too. Can't wait to see how you build it up.

???

Call me dumbfounded as well. Why not pick up a rusty beat old frameset that needs restoration and do that one instead?
These frames are plentiful and cheap.

I'm just glad to see another wonderful piece of work from C4....one day I'll ship something out there....one day.

I get the feeling that SAF is pulling our collective legs in one way or another.

the "before" photo doesn't look mint to me - mint means unblemeished - there are chips and scratches all over it

That's correct. When I say the original was mint, I meant the frame itself, not the paint, which did have some chips though not many. The original frame was in excellent condition, and the metal underneath the paint was flawless - no washer marks at all, and the seat mast looks like it never had a clamp on it. I wanted a Performer that I could use as a basis for a perfect restore, and this was it. No rust, no blemishes on the metal whatsoever. Usually a frame that has bad paint has other issues with the metal underneath. I wanted something as close to perfect to start with as possible and this was it.
