Looking for tips on how to remove grips (without destroying them) from a bike that's been in a hot Houston attic for 25 years.

Thanks.

A quick spray of some "Aerostart" (ether based liquid) has worked for me.

If they have a hole in the end the compressor method of installing them works well to get them off too. The first grip off will fly about 15 feet though.

push a skinny screwdriver under them and use WD40,try to work it all the way around.

Use a Compressor

That's the only way to get old grips off without the oily mess of wd-40 and such products

Did it the other day and it worked fine. KA-POW!!!!! The grip was over by the front door, lol. Then I put them on another bike. Compressors are awesome

I use rubbing alcohol and a thin screwdriver......works great and no oily mess.

Removed a pair of 30 year old clear Winner's Circle grips yesterday off an old Mongoose yesterday... Used my regular method:

I also use a super thin screwdriver. I very gently and carefully insert the screwdriver between the grip and bar about 1 1/2 inches...

Only difference, I just spray some warm water into the gap. Remove the screwdriver and twist a little. Repeated the process with the screwdriver in a bit deeper.. Take it out, twist a bit more...

Done.

No damage at all to bars or grips. No cost, no chemicals or other crap either. wink.gif
