That is sick. I don't know, but whatever compulsive disorder you have there Subwax, spread it to me ok?
Are you going to build them all up with matching Peregrines?

Radberry. Here's a pic of a NOS 85 RL20II for comparison:

This is a slightly darker version - I believe it went darker towards 86 - more the colour of the stems.

Those came out real nice Neil!
Is this what you are going for?!

Neil, I have a set of NOS Radberry bars that are the darker color, they are almost the color of the Radberry stem. The bars are either 86 or 87, I believe.

Dec 2 2008, 08:15 AM
Are you building them with mags or 48's?
subwax
Dec 2 2008, 08:17 AM
Both. I have enough Rl20II's to do 1 for each colour / wheel combo.
I have also done a tomato red 85 - still needs a bit of work though. Eventually, it will look like this, but with decals applied. I couldnt bring myself to apply the decals to the NOS frame - just doesnt seem right.

My decals will be ready next moth sometime. 100% accurate to the originals.

Dec 2 2008, 08:26 AM
What color decals are you putting on the Tomato Red RL20II? The same as the set in this picture?
subwax
Dec 2 2008, 08:35 AM
Yes, I think so - they seem to suit the bike best. I was toying with the idea of doing a set of blue 85 decals, but I think I'll stick with the decals that came with it.
Its one of my favourite bikes. Its a mystery as to exactly what it is and where it came from.

For you to have enough of these to do a model of each in 48s and in mags -- I can't even fathom that. It truly amazes me.
Anway, I met up with a buddy of mine last year who used to have his brother's Radberry RL 20-II, but he says he lost it in the last couple of moves he's made over the years. I didn't have the heart to tell him how much it could be worth. He lives in the Atlanta area now, so those of you out there might want to sift through the landfills.

I like your bikes, Subwax. If I ever get my hands on an RL 20-II, I'm painting it candy apple blue and applying custom Redline stickers. I know the purists among you are aghast, because there were no candy blue RL 20_-IIs, but what can I say? I think it would be cool.

Well, as far as I am aware, this red frame is unique. Its the only one I have seen. It was sourced from someone that bought up the Redline stock. I think it was a prototype for what eventually became california red - it isnt actually california red, its more orange than that. Its kind of a tomator red. Its got the 86 style rear stands, but I reckon its an 85 due to the colour.
This is what I mean - nobodyknows for sure what it is, all I know is that I love it.

Why not do it a unique colour - there was another Rl20II here that the guy powdercoated candy red. It looked great.

And we can't forget about Ironhide's 'Royalberry' RL20II. It was one of the nicest builds I've seen. He even gave the color a name that sounds like it belongs in the Redline line-up.

Awesome bikes Neil! Has Chip color matched the correct accurate turquoise color for you? So far there's not been a Prostyler done in the correct authentic color, the aqua has always been off; usually too light or too blue.
I'm very interested in seeing you build the white ones... I've never seen a white frame really done justice. I submit for your consideration to do a replica of R.L. Osborn's bike from his 1986 tour... it's awesome, has silver grey Peregrines... I saw it in person, and there are only two photos that I know of showing it, this is one:

I dont think the aqua is 100% accurate, but then again, any authentic original frames now would have faded due to age, so I think its impossible to accurately guage the colour.
Has anyone got a NOS turquoise 85 RL20II?

Now that I think about it, it was late '85; Buff was gone from the team, R.L. hadn't yet switched from mags to 48's. I do have one other photo of the bike I will try to find that shows more of it.
I don't have any NOS turquoise parts, I wish I did, because I want to send it off to Chip so he can precisely color match it. I know that means mixing up a custom powder that costs $$$, but I'm willing to pay for it. Plus, I think there are enough guys out there needing authentic turquoise color for their restorations too so it would be worth it.

I'd be interested in that, for sure.
The Radberry he uses is correct for the early 85 Radberry frames. Hazard yellow and white are good too, just the turquoise could do with a bit of tinkering to get it exact.
I have got an 85 PL20 in turquoise, but I think it has faded somewhat.

Neil,
I'm amazed at your collection. I've never owned a RL 20 II but I've always said that it would be cool to own one myself. As a kid, I REALLY thought of wavering from Haro for the RL20II.
Let me know if you need any Redline Forklifter FS stems - I have a few, some NOS, some Used - all in good condition.

I would definately have the teal matched if someone can send me a sample. I am told the color I'm using is very close by someone in Australia that has a frame done with it, but I haven't been able to get an unfaded frame or bars to match personally. I'm still waiting for Mike to get me a sample for the later Radberry. I was looking for that ad befor I boxed those frames up to ship, I should have added the forks in there for the pictures.

Chip - there's a stem and a set of Forklifter bars on their way to you - you might be able to get an accurate sample from that.

Dec 8 2008, 07:31 PM
Chip,
Don't match to the stem – the turquoise (and other colors) was always much darker on the stems (maybe because of the aluminum? I dunno...).
I am ready to go in for my share of mixing up a matched color powder, I have an RL20II frame, bars and stem ready already prepared to send to you, just need the perfect color.

My .02 is that I dont know if there really is such a thing as an actual true turquoise redline colour. I had my rl 20 painted to an exact match of a nos stem, and i had my rl 29 ii painted by chip to another exact match of nos turquoise, and as you can see, they are two different colours. I hate to say it, but there were some inconsistancies in the redline qc department,
