Today I woke up, turned on the computer, and checked Craigslist. The ad for this bike was posted at 11:40. I emailed at 11:49. By 12:45 I was home with my new score. Am I beyond stoked? Yes.

Awesome!

This may be an odd question, but I don't know much about GTs. Did they all come with cable guides on both fork legs? And why? What front (potts mod set-up) brakes had the clamp on the right side? Or was it like that in case you wanted to run your brakes on the back side like Fiola?
Axlepeg
Way to act fast, Dave. I'm gonna assume you got a pretty good deal.

Larryboy; They started coming with the double cableguide in '86, because of the stock brakes that came on the bike:

They continued to have the double fork guides, even when the routing went internal, in and beyond '87, and the bikes no longer came with those brakes.

Are those Potts mod 901s? I don't remember those for some reason.

Awesome score bro! Looks like there's gonna be a set of OGK Hutch mags on eBay by the weekend, as well ;-)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Also... what's up with the strange GT decals on the top of the downtube? I've never seen that triangle OVER the GT letters... printing error or whazzup?!

The more I look at this bike, the stranger it becomes... that Dyno headtube decal looks like.. it came there, LOL.

Nice score, very cool! I'm digging the Dyno head tube sticker a lot. cool.gif

Sweet Score !!

I wonder if those are the og decals because the bike appears to specd out as a "Performer", not PP ?

Whats the deal with the OGKs ? I recently picked up a 86 Performer and it's got OGKs also....I dont remember them coming stock on GTs....stock wheels would have been GT mags in 86 ?
aluv
now that is a survivor. built the way someone wanted.....straight old school. very sweet!

Interesting question, given that OGK made GT Performer mags. This brings to mind a personal experience, when I ordered a purple '87 D-Tour from Rockville, back in umm... '87. The day it came, I was BEYOND stoked. Upon opening the box, I discover that my D-Tour has.... white OGK Peregrine Masters! I'm like.. wtf? My mom calls Rockville to ask why it came with different wheels, and they said that some of the "new" D-Tours (mine being an early model) were being delivered to them that way, that they are basically the same wheel, but if I was unhappy, I could send back the wheels and they would ship me the Performer mags. I told her, don't worry about it... after all, I had this bike for like.. 5 minutes now and all I wanted to do was build it up and RIDE.

Sooo.... here's the question. Perhaps early '86 Performers/Pro Performers also received different OGKs for a few weeks, during production?

Very cool score! That had to feel pretty cool for the seller too. Within 10 minutes it's sold and gone in about an hour.

I wondered about the OGK mags too. My guess is that someone swapped them out years ago. They're not my favorite wheels, but I think I'll leave them on the bike so it can maintain its survivor status. I think I'll change the tires and pedals though. I just found a set of 1/2" silver DXs yesterday, and hopefully I can scrounge up some passable black/gumwall freestyle tires somewhere.
