Okay, rememeber the hyper ad in bmx action where grubs is jumping over you with the all black background.

Its a really cool picture. Anyway, it was done by greg laying on his back with the bike above him. I remember doing this all the time in the winter months.

I would lay on my back with my trusty scoot above me. It was really easy to do no handed tabletops and such............wink.gif

Anyway, my friend dave who I rode with alot decided to recreate that shot. So, suiting up we went into his garage. We put down some landscaping tarp stuff.

We took turns doing tricks while the other one was up in the garage rafters taking pictures. This is the only one I have. Funny times.

God, I seriously remember doing this like it was yesterday. It was over christmas vacation in probably 83.

soooooooooo, heres dave................on his cook bros mind you!

Earlier this year I went through a bunch of my old photos. Pretty funny to see that stuff. Here is a pic taken right outside of the Irvine BMX track in Irvine, CA. This is what I did in between moto's to keep myself occupied. Seems this was around the same time as your pic. After I saw that photo of Toby doing it in BMXA I went out that day to learn it.

Glad I wasn't the only dork...

When the IL snow flew, I'd do that with the bikes and the skateboards.

TONE

In that AD that is the Late Billy Farrell, on the Bike Lying down, and not Grubbs,

they tried to get Tommy Brackens laugh.gif

And Yes i was a goofy A$$ and did stuff like that to, only I did it while my parents thought I was asleep in my Bed, I would grab mike bike that I only kept next to my Bed, and pretend to do all kinds of crazy jumps, once I even fell asleep with my bike in the bed with me, My parents either thought it was cute, or thought I was a pervert, and did nasty things to my bike during the night, ,,now that explains all of the trips to the coo coo doctor to discuss my problems, Hmmm now it all makes sense
Walter
jsea...........im pretty sure its grubbs. i might be wrong (usually not) though.

glad to see i wasnt the only nut doing crossed up no footed kick outs on my back. smile.gif

Oh man, love that shot from Irvine. I used to LOVE that wood jump. That's back in the days when the track had no fence around it, had the s-turn/switchbacks, etc. Must have been 81-82 or so. Great photo!

That is correct the rider in that Hyper add was the late Billy Farell (owner of Hyper).....not Greg Grubbs.

I can assure you it was Billy.
His father Bill is a professional photographer and took the orriginal photo.
It was orriginally a big secret how he got the shot, and wouldn't even tell the magazines. Somehow it got out (I think it was even printed in a mag.) and Bill was a little upset.
Billy was a close friend of mine, I can remember when he first saw my stripped-down Columbia and we would race from his house to mine (about 5 miles) trying to touch as little pavement as possible.
I still have the very 1st prototype HYPER with the oval downtube that he gave to me for getting him into BMX. I also have an unbuilt 2nd gen. frame.
Jsea73..thanks for posting that pic, it captures Billy perfectly.
NYBMX
That is Billy and Gregg. My name is Elvis I was co-sponsered by Billy. When I picked up my bike at his house in Manhattan I saw the photos for the add.
AndyDiamond
yeah it was printed in BMX Action - I think OZ asked the question - either way it was a cool ad and that bike is trick.

I believe it was Billy Farrell's dad who financed the Hyper project.

TONE - looks like Tommy had that 'Michael Jackson' disease eh?

Kathy
I wonder what the record is for the oldest thread brought back to life? It's still funny though.
