Anybody remember sun britches?they were made out of thick nylon material with velcro fly ....I had bunch of them as a kid,but can't find any reference to them on the net..

I also had every color. I also had a bunch of Quicksilver shorts/swim suits. I recall when I think OP shorts (at least in NYC) were no longer in style. It was when I was sent home by my school because the OP shorts were deemed inappropriate (maybe it just how they looked on me; probably too short).
