Howdy y'all! I have a Pro Neck that was originally a normal pro neck, but which was inverted somewhere along its travels. Is there a special procedure I need to follow to return it to its original grace and prevent any weird issues with play or slop? I had always heard that many of the stems that were converted to inversion stems had some play in them.

Muchas Gracias!

In what way was it converted? Technically, you cant "flip" the piece mounted to the stem. The "lower" part of the stem clamp has a hole bored for a press fit of the quill, and to flip the lower part of the stem, means to clamp it to the top of the quill using the large hollow nut. This is a dangerous practice.

I was sold a complete bike with an "inverted" stem like this, from a "big name in the hobby", and only found out later that it wasn't genuine. I restored my stem to original.

Do you have any photos?

more than likely you have an inverted proneck which would be common for cruisers and rather desirable.
if the top surface of your neck doesn't have a big drilled out hole and looks normal, then it's an inverted and can't really be flipped back due to the large hole where the quill presses into underneath.

Sorry. I don't have pics at the moment. I'll take some and try (TRY) to post 'em, but my MAC has the nikon software on it and it is currently having issues. But I will try in one hand and....

This is definitely not a stock inverted stem. It predates the factory inversions. It has had the base plate flipped upside down and the detachable plate is no longer on top, but on the bottom - with the pro neck stamped on it. I bought this bugger from Darren Chan and he let me know exactly what I was buying.

Thanks a ton.
