I was wondering if someone could help me out?

I am doing my first Vintage build. I picked up a White Skyway T/A this week. It has no head set cups in it, so I need to get a head set but have never purchased one before. I looked on E-bay and see that there are a few different sizes (1 inch and 1 1/8) so I measured the inside of the head tube on the T/A and its 1 1/4.

What size head set do I need to buy?

ALSO.....are the vintage Red or blue anno headsets really going for $150+????????

Thanks

Try a WTB add or looking through the for sale section on Vintage. The people on this site seem to take care of one another!

I am a FAN.

Did the frame come with forks ? If so, are the forks threaded ? If so, you need a 1" headset. If you have forks without the threading, then those would be 1 1/8 threadless headset.

You need a 1" threaded MX (not road) headset. Buy a chrome one for 10 bucks at your local bike shop.

like Todd said. your cups need to be 32.7mm (road 1" are 30.0 or 30.3mm, 1 1/8" are 34mm).

Great, thanks so much for helping me out. I love this site, everyone is so cool and helpful........

I did not get the T/A forks with the frame, but I am hoping to order a set from Colored tuffs. Once I do that, I will buy a headset.

One other question, I would really like to get the red headset cups. I think they make the white T/A's look very sharp with the red and blue decals and the red headset cups. So my question is.....can you still get new red headset cups or are the old school ones which are selling for over 150 bucks still the only red cups available?

other than maybe Chris King (if they even still do them) no one has made the size you need for a long time. besides shelling out for the old ones, i've taken tioga/tange MX-IIs (which you can still get) and sprayed them with translucent red/blue/gold.

I just had the very same question about my DG ZF! I wasn't sure if the road was larger than the bmx headtube. Nice to have an answer. Thanks Todd!
