I need a network of volunteers, people who are committed to being in leadership positions and also a lot of kids/ adults who have the PASSION TO RIDE!!!!
The track is already there it just needs to be groomed. So if we can start having dirt being moved and regular track work days it could be ready in a months worth of work. If anyone is willing to get out the lawn tools and help out please don't hesitate to call.
Anyone who wants to discuss anything PM me or call me at 404 630 3125!

It would definitely be a Saturday. I don't really know what kind of support the community wants to give. I should probably get the track sanctioned and get some of the paper work out of the way. OR should we get it rideable and get the community excited about it before everything is finished?
I would love some more dirt. If you can find a way to get more dirt the Rec Dept said they would start sending community service people out there more often to pull weeds and mow the grass. A lot of weed killer and fresh layer of dirt would do wonders.

there use to be a track in savannah a few yrs back in a park near pooler It is most likely still there just under brush, I'm sure you may have already heard about it, The park was out in the middle of no where but not to far from sav & richmond hill.
Richmond Hill had a track for about a yr then got dozed with the quickness that was sad nice guy got it up but no participation then the park built some building on the land.
let me know if you need directions to the old track

From what Donna at E. Macon told me she has a guy with heavy equipment lined up. A guy to run it. And some tree removal and dirt coming in. So we are just waiting to get the go ahead to start from the city. I will give you more info as soon as I get it.
We are going to go with the NBL to hopefully be apart of the GA state series in 2010. The date we are shooting for is end of March to have it up and running.

East Macon Parks and Rec Dept. The park has to get approval from the city to start modifying the city land before we can all get started. I wouldn't get your shoes tied just yet. I am waiting to hear back from Donna today or tomorrow to see how it went. I am in class all day today so I could not make the meeting.

I got back into the sport there in '98. Some really good memory's and some funny stories from that place. I believe that was the second track on that land. I think Harper had said he had ridden there maybe a couple years back just passing thru.

I had been away from BMX since 1985 and in 1998 I discovered Savannah BMX while at GSU. Went home the next weekend to get my Schwinn Predator Black Shadow and my ECHO helmet. And was at the track the next weekend!
Chad Eaton was the track director. He used to race at an old track at the same location BITD and wanted to get this one going again.
Met my riding buddy, Mark Mitchell, and his family late Fall 1998....Been kicking the BMX scene with him ever since!
Points of Interest at Savannah BMX 1998-2000!
1)Announcing Tower - 1978 Ford Ranger
2)PA - two big tall home speakers - the huge old school kind; sitting atop the cab of the Ford Ranger!
3)Registration - picnic table
4)Track Maintenance equipment - 1980 riding lawnmower with the blades removed; yep, we flipped it a few times.
5)track layout (1985 type jumps and layout) in 1998
6)Concession Stand - Hibatchi grill on a picnic table with your favorite chicken, turkey, burger, dog covered in lighter fluid and charcoal ash.

Exactly. Albany 1hr south and McDonough 1hr North of Macon sounds like decent residual ridership feeding off of each other. Now we just have to recruit local ridership.

I will keep posting up info as it comes.
As of right now East Macon will be signing a contract Friday with the city. There has already been work orders sent out to remove the trees, Round-Up for the weeds, and for the fence to be repaired. I am really glad that we are going with the NBL. It has been tough to make a choice but I think it will really grow with it being a part of the state series next year.
Hopefully if the track is ready by the time the Ga State Championship MTB series comes around, it would be awesome to maybe have a BMX race in coordination with the MTB festivities!
The plan is to run sunday races and have gate practice as much as possible. If anyone else wants to donate or lend a hand just let me know!

I can help you with a bare bones website that you can maintain pretty easy. There are freebie hosting services but in order to have a clean domain address like MaconBMX.com you really need to pay for one. Not to expensive really though, so don't let that scare ya. We use doteasy for our host they have freebie and pay for service. Another is Bravehost. Google them both.
I would check to see if the City/Rec Dept. won't do it for you first. I am sure they have a site you can piggy back on with maybe a BB forum for quick and easy updates?

Yea I found savannah in a funny way myself, at work one day in HHI I ran into a bike shop "Bike Doctors" bunch of dudes about my age watching a recent video of them racing. I jump in the conversation stating I use to race yada yada yada next thing i know I'm having my bike delivered after a 15 yr rest to me at the track day of the race. I take 5 or 10 practice laps and boom I'm back baby!!
I got beat by at least two straights by what were most likely 17 + rookies. But I remember looking at the track thinking yea not much has changed in 15 years that is until I went to summerville a few months later.
that was 99 after a number of years on and off i find myself still racing. Funny thing is if i did not go into the shop that day I would have never started BMX again. it was just by chance I went there that day.

Awesome! Similar stories: I had gone into Eagle Creek Cyclery in Statesboro, looking for a mtn bike; saw the prices and then said, you have any BMX bikes. There was a HARO Group 1 cruiser. Bought it that day and they said a track was being built in Savannah. Went out there the next day and the rest is history!

Hi Larry,

Once you have all the contracts (sanction, city, permits) signed and it's for real, I expect that people will step forward to help. Try to get as many Macon locals on your committee and build your "To Do" list and get names assigned to tasks.
Send me news/updates and photos and I will post them on the www.GeorgiaBMX.org website.
