Full Version: Afraid of Plating Disasters?

My friend Daryl does some work for Orange County Choppers and he agreed to do up a couple 76 Mongoose frames for me in a hand polished "Brilliant Nickel"...

Initially, I was quite nervous because I haven't had any of my prized Geese plated and I know there can be many things that can go wrong. Including, ruining the beautiful OG Heliarc welds, obscuring serial numbers and acid disintegration etc.

I was especially nervous because one of the frames was Cash Matthews. I held my breath for a couple days and when I picked them up, I was blown away!

These pictures do not do the frames justice, believe me. They were so perfectly done that I nearly wept when I saw them...

Daryl is truly a master at what he does.

Serial #'s C 17440 and CF6 20485 (Cash's fame):

Yeah, Daryl sure knows what he's doing when it comes to plating... He's also a master TIG welder. Shoot me a PM if you want anything done by him.

Here's a couple pics of some work he did for the boys at Orange County Choppers. This is the "Statue of Liberty Bike" they made from actual pieces of the Statue of Liberty... Sick:

what does he charge to chrome plate a frame? As many know my saga with my National Pro, I need to get it rechromed, and I trust NOONE one local.

Hey Steve, I remember reading about that... Incredible save from Rod Miles right? Anyhow, that's exactly why I was so worried about having these plated as well.

Shoot me a PM and I'll give you all the details on Daryl. He's a total pro. No worries with this master plater, that's for sure... wink.gif

Yeah, Daryl is a good egg and a heck of a pro plater... He's not the cheapest, but the boys at OCC trust him and so do I!

For frame and forks, it would be around $175.00 to $225.00 depending mostly on frame details (any caliper grommets etc.), condition (plated, bare, powdered or painted) and actual size.

PM me if your interested.

The guy who did Ted's bikes (IMO) one of the best chrome jobs I've ever seen... Wow-wow-wow!

Ya, I've seen a few chrome jobs that were a case of...... "that wasn't suppose to happen"

Don't forget this not Chrome.

This is "Brilliant Nickel" whic is quite different from Hexavalent Chrome...

Chrome has a "bluish" tint and the Nickel has a slight "goldish" tint.

What's really great about Daryl's work is his ability to leave every single detail in tact especially the OG welds and of course to NEVER obscure a serial number. Not sure if Ted's guy trashed the serial numbers or not... That might have been another guy.
