I recently had a brake problem on my ZX10R as I put them back together improperly. (There is this plunger thingy that tells the brakes if they are being applied or not), Anyway, The front tire locked up and I SLAMMMMMED the asphalt so hard that I had already picked my bike up before I realized I had wrecked.

I didn't go to the doctor, but I know I had a concussion. I estimate I hit at about 25 mph and it destroyed a beautiful AGV Ti tech helmet.

I had a headache for a month and I was stupid for at least a week and a half (checking behind myself because I kept messing things up- couldn't type).

Had I not been wearing a helmet (not mandatory in my state) I would be dead.

-BMX bikes can go 25 miles per hour.

I was at a state series race last summer and watched in Amazment these kids doing ariels and jumps from a paved Berm. The amazing part? No Helmets! The crazy thing is not one person cared. I am partially to blame for not stopping the nonsense. I mentioned it to my buddy that I thought it odd. It was going on in front of the starting hill and conscession stand. There was a rain delay. I have taken some serious crashes and thankfully was wearing a helmet. From Mt. biking and BMX. I have also suffered several severe concussions from car wrecks to getting hit in the head with a thrown chunk of cement. The effect of them is permenant. I am a firm believer in helmets for my whole family. When you see someone tell them, if you get shunned oh well tell people anyway. I had my youngest son 6 at the skate park. The teenagers were all riding without. My boy was wearing full pads and a full face. One kid said man I could'nt do what he is doing till I was 14 and I said cause your scared to wear a helmet. I told them all your setting a terrible example to these young kids and your riding shows your fears. They all thought whatever old man. The ranger came through and made them all put them on. I had no influence. As soon as she was gone they came off. I took my kid and left. Its up to parents and concerned adults and kids to demand your friends wear a helmet. Is 100 or 200 bucks too much for your life or someone being in debt for the rest of it?

under 18 shouldnt have a choice, and wear their helmets period. its called parenting, but all you liberal soapbox standers should take your argument to the political section.. that includes you mike. i like the way you guys read s*%t and then tell everyone else what you think they should do!!! and throw out your accusations about why people dont wear helmets!! when you really dont know why, but you back it up with "what you have read" or what your sons wifes er dr thinks? or throw in your own crappy bias and stray way off topic from bmxers to mx and casual riders. its lame take it to badlands!!! ok im done venting, sorry

A poor 14-year-old kid died here yesterday in Colorado Springs from head injuries when he wrecked while jumping at grocery store's loading dock. Reports say he wasn't wearing a helmet. It just kind of makes you think.

I understand about the Magazine thing Mike.(Mike Caruth) but let me just play devils advocate. If the mags would not put any pics of brakeless or helmetless riders then I truly believe that the riders would change. Every rider wants their pic in the magazine and if I am a sponsor I want pics of my product in the magazine also. If the only way to get these pics exposed were to have brakes on the bikes and wear a helmet then thats what most riders will do. They wouldnt be famous if they get no exposure and they dont get paid if they dont get exposure. The problem I forsee is that not ALL the media outlets will conspire on this but if they would...............
