CA1 385121

on the BB
kobe24
81 Team goose

I173315

Stamped on BB
MadCowboy
not sure of the year on either

first one is CJ9 230813 im guessing the 9 means it is a 79 from other serials posted here.

second one is a californian M5CD8937 after closer inspection, the moorpark californian decal has 1985 on it.

Bob Poffinbarger
just picked up a frame from Moosegoose Nick.

I am new to old school BMX restoring. but not to restoring. I use to restore 30's 40's 50's ballon tire bikes and decided I try a BMX. I have found a nice 79 mongoose motomag. frame, tange pinched fork, one-piece crank and snow flake chainring. It is black with oringinal decals. Want to restore it if it is worth it. My main question is were to find the rest of the right parts and how to replate fork? Are these nickel plated( the fork)? thanks

You can learn most of what you want to know regarding old Mongoose bicycles from here: www.vintagemongoose.com

Sadly (depending on how you look at it), Ebay will be the largest resource for finding older Mongoose parts etc. Good luck on your restoration project! smile.gif

This recently popped up on Ebay - CB7 32487. I thought it would be interesting to note, this one came after Randy's CA7 32286. It would seem there were 200 bikes between them.

On the master serial number list, I believe there is a CB7 32492 - but I don't know if it has an extra gusset or not. It would be interesting to find out, as this one is only 5 units earlier.

Knowing more about 32492 (regarding having the extra gusset or not) could give a very close pinpoint as to when the extra gussets were dropped from production.

As far as I know, this may now be the last "extra gusset" first generation Goose with MM 1's out there as of now... It looks to be pretty much all original.

Ted Carl
So how is S/N 10771 WAZ?

I haven't heard anything in a long time. Are you keeping him in line, and making sure he feeds and waters it regularly? Is it getting the love it deserves?

More than once, I have felt like I should not have sold that one.... to_take_umbrage.gif

When was the extra gusset Goose phased out....

BMX TEACHER
My first true BMX bike that I bought from my local Schwinn Dealer in Toledo Ohio. Bought July 18, 1979. Blue Team Mongoose ser# TCC9 147697. Still have it today and all the documents that came with it. Including the Team Mongoose Bicycle Manual and riding instructions. The blue plating is gone and my sister uses it as a daily rider. Still one of the best riding bikes ever. Tommy

Here's my '81 Mongoose II.

CK9 238340

I got it NEW for my Birthday guessing from the year my 10th and rode it a lot A LOT
even raced a few 1980-1981 motos.

I can post a few pic's if anyone wants to see it. (it's in pretty good shape)
I re-painted it when I was early teen and have no idea where the checkered Cal Lite bar pads went
but they are MIA.

I took the serial number and went surfing to see what i could find out about it and surprised
how much you guys know and how many other rad bikes i've seen. (yes i said rad.. lol)

Mine is a Californian all original with a serial number E50000079 Made in Moorpark with smooth dropouts, two holes, with no groves. This means most likely an 84 dropout due to the move from Chatsworth to Moorpark and the extra parts left over for use.

BTW I belive all starting numbers with an M after 81 and on were made in the Merida Factory in Taiwan.

please post pics of this bike
