Yeah, I'm late, sorry.

I've got three.

CB1 387358 nickel, old dropouts
K1098567 chrome, step dropouts

and one other nickel, old dropout with the serial ground off. I found it in a trash pile.
osrlracer
here's a pic of what I have.
  • 76 nickel ck6 27057
  • 79 nickel T cc9 146636
  • 79 nickel ch9 196382
  • 80 white ca0 274467

Waz, as you know RCain's Mongoose CA7 32286 seems to be the last known "First Generation" Goose with the extra Gusset. Which IMO, is an important transitional bike going into the 2nd Generation Geese...

For your records, I also found this one which is also January 77 with the extra gusset but can't quite make out the rest of the serial number:

waza007
EDITED.....
mongoosedrummer
More info for you on that last one Waz... It once belonged to "TeamRob".

I was able to make out the rest of the numbers on it: CA7 31909

This still leaves RCain's (CA7 32286) the last of the "Extra Gusset Geese" as far as I know...

waza007
mongoosedrummer are either of these E1-14727 or F1- 19919 step down dropout versions?

mongoosedrummer
They are both the older straight drop outs. The H149917 in Raw Metal is the only one I have with the newer step down (with the 2 extra holes) drop-outs.

Very nice work Waza!
FYI, CA7 32286 is listed twice, I know its a cool bike, but it probably doesn't deserve double billing lol.

M.D. Is Team Robs old CA7 frame in your possession? I knew he had one and sold it off before realizing how rare it was. Did you track it down?
I would also be very intersted in knowing if any other low numbered CB7 bikes show up, I'm assuming that the CB7 frame on Wazas list is a non-gusseted, brake bridge equipped bike.
waza007
I own CC7, but no name on CB7
i'll check the CC7 i have here

ive added another 30 or so numbers
and adding to the timeline features as well.

Ive updated vintagemongoose.com serial number page also.

Nope. It's not quite the "last one of the first Gen." like yours is Randy and because you've already promised yours to me, I figured I didn't need Rob's... laugh.gif tongue.gif

mongoosedrummer
So far (from this list only), I'm getting;

10057 is the first '75

12000 is the last '75

"C-13054" is the first '76

CE6's have the first new Month/Year Stamps

"CA7-32286" is the end of the extra Gusset Frames (RCain's/soon to mine tongue.gif )

It amazes me that this "Wild Goose Chase" just keeps going and that 34 years later it is still being "defined"...

A toast to Skip!!! wink.gif Cin-Cin!
waza007
im up to 350 serials so far, keep em coming.
even if you dont own them.

make sure to check if its a team MKII/uspergoose as the serial # doesnt tell me that. Basically as much info as you can give....

cheers

Ken, Ken, Ken... That's a badazz list! wink.gif Nice... BTW, I enjoyed hearing your insights on the "other site"... You are a true "Mongoosian"!

I hope to see some additional comments next to the list eventually.

Things like:

*Last Known Two Ply Trapezoid Brake Tab
*First Known One Ply Squished Hourglass Brake Tab (or whatever it's called)
*Last Known Flanged Seat Stay Triangle
*First Known Straight or Even Seat Stay Triangle
*First Known DeCoster
*Last Known DeCoster
*Last Known with Extra Gusset
*First Known Brake Bridge
*Last known with Brake Tab (early 79?)
*First Known Team (September 77?)

Etc..

As more bikes are added we could see the last or the first ones that pertain to these changes. IMO, nailing down things like May, 1976 as the first addition of the Month/Year stamp for example, is what I'm getting at. I like understanding when these changes occurred...

The first "C" being added to the stamp IMO would be a logical start of the "straight" or "even" seat stay Triangle as well indicating the first known 1976's... I'd like to hear/learn more about that.

It would be interesting to find/see a pic of that CB7 frame, I have seen 1 other CB7 serial# and it was a non gusset, brake bride equipped frame, which has always led me to believe that CA7 was the last of the first gen. frames. Later CA7's or earlier CB7's could narrow it down even more.
I would be surprised if your CC7 was a gusseted frame, and it would shoot my theory to hell. laugh.gif

Waz, I just checked out the site and the serial # changes look good. smile.gif I also like the flattened right seatstay Team frame explanation. Well done. FYI, the '79 Supergoose had it as well.

I was wondering if your master list of serial #'s and it's continuos updates will also be on this site eventually? One more quick point, the 2 ply Trapezoid brake tab did change in '75 as on Michael's and mine... You may want to note that too. wink.gif

Yea Drummer, I got too many geese, my mom doesn’t even have this many on her farm. biggrin.gif

I would have to say that the DeCoster that I sold Rob is the oldest so far. Both his and mine were made in June 76 but my serial number is about 200 higher. According to a letter I found written by one of Skips employees, the DeCosters weren’t even announced until after July 76, at least that is the post mark on the letter, so when they were available is a mystery so far. I got mine from the original owner and he said he got it in late 76, either for his birthday or Christmas, I can’t remember which.

It may be tough to do but I think it would be cool to have the owner’s names next to the serial numbers. It would show where some of the rarest bikes are located and if god forbid any of us had any bikes stolen, it would be proof that the frame Joe Shmo is selling on the bay is your stolen frame.

I think some kind of Oldschool BMX registry would be a good idea, but it may be hard to set up. You would have to set it up where the owner can update it so when he sells a bike he can register the new owners name with the serial number.

I know… I know… It was just a thought. dry.gif

Hey Waza

Statistically speaking - if we get, lets say 1000 serial numbers, over the production years of maybe 77 to 84...

How many bikes ended up as scrap?????

Or how many are there yet to be discovered????

around 1,000,000 to go
