I started on Blue Streaks (light, rear was grippy but the front washed out in turns), went to Holy Rollers(best all-purpose tire), then to micro knobbies (VERY smooth and fast rolling, NOT fun in damp conditions). Track was wet at a national so I bought some Small Block 8`s (very light, awesome grip, make a cool noise when going up jumps). I was really happy with them, but the sidewalls started to deteriorate for no apparent reason so I have switched to the new Maxxis DTH. Even with 85psi they are fairly compliant. Smooth and fast so far.

And I try to run 1.75R/1.95F when possible. The micro knobbies were 2.125 front.
