Can anyone help me with info on these?

The usual questions.

What years?

Chrome or colors?

Gusset or no gusset?

Likely serial numbers?

How many made (Rare or No Rare)?

Have any old ads for these you can post?

Etc, etc, etc.
J.T.
Years - '83 and '84

Chrome only

No traditional Torker gusset

Serial #'s - TLL # thru TDD #

How many - Don't know

Rare - depends on #'s made, which we don't know and of course original finish

Article - February 1984 BMXA tests the Pro - X, great reading!

Here's my original from 1983

It hasn't changed too much since then and barely ridden since I was totally into Freestyle by then.

Thanks a million, JT!

Criscobath
Well, I just made a fair trade for one. The serial number starts with TKK.

I'll post pics later. It needs some work, but is rideable as is.
jumpingjohn
I just got my name on a chrome one over here in the UK.

Cant wait to get my hands on it, waited along time for one - know exactly what I wanna do with it!
Criscobath
Here it is!

I think I'm going to keep it and make it a swap meet cruiser. It seems to have plenty of leg room for a 20 inch.

Pro-X Freestyler huh.gif
Criscobath
Yep. smile.gif

The guy I got this from always wanted a Haro Master, but found this instead. Thus, a Pro-X Freestyler.

It likely won't stay in it's current configuration for long.

My Pro X serial number is TDD0611P

How do you determine that?
jipster43
I guess timing is everything. I was asking about Pro-X's a few months ago. I have one without a serial number. Where were the SN's displayed on these buggers?

Gracias!

Mine is on the backside of one dropout.
jumpingjohn
Thanks JT for dating my Pro X

Although I havent recieved it yet I believe the serial number on mine is on the plate between the two top tubes and at the top of the seat tube.
J.T.
Sometimes the plates weren't stamped or stamped on the wrong side but this is a first to have it stamped at the seatpost plate. Post the bike once you receive it!

Hey, here is a pic of a friend of mine's Pro X.

It was wrongly stickered up as a 280X, he never got around to changing them.
jipster43
Cool. That was a tough serial number to find. I had to remove the rear wheel. THH 04 46 P . This bike was a rare dumpster find. The frame and forks are in great shape - the chrome is nearly perfect. It has a pro neck stem too, but the rest is muy lame. Anyone know what year this one is?

Thanks for the info!

I'll try to get a pic up of my Pro-X just built back up. Nothing special, mostly chrome with tioga one piece. Needs that rare sticker set as most restos do. Remember when I built and rode it in 84'... it was a beast for a 14x.
jipster43
Thanks JT. I have some random parts I may assault it with if I get the time. Most of my spare stuff is pre '84 though.

Awesome! Thanks J.T.

I haven't done a build in over five years now, but I have become totally obsessed with this bugger. I've stripped all the house paint and stickers off and the chrome is dazzling. The parts are more circa '79 and '80(not '84), but I'm never bothered by that kind of stuff. That's my era. I had a yellow comp II and a yellow snakebelly laying around and neither are museum pieces, so they'll be going on this. They make the bike. I hate to blather on and not post pics, but the computer I use for such things is currently hopelessly bogged down - my wife takes about 20 pics a day.

Anyway. I'm just so stoked on this project I had to post to vent some mania off. Thanks for humoring me!

JP,

It's great the Pro-X project is stoking the fire to build.

I'm in the same boat. I'm pretty much over the whole parts hunt deal and intend to build mine with parts I already have. This mean a mix of early 80s parts (many pre 84). It's going to be the bike I throw in the wagon for swap meets, bar hops, and general screwing around.

I love riding my 24 and 26s, but they don't fit in the car so good. The Pro-X fits perfect and rides nice even for a 6ft.+ big boy like me.

Keep us posted on your build and post pics as you can. I promise to do the same.
Criscobath
Update.

I scrounged around in the garage today and located most of the parts for my build. It's going to be chrome, gold, and black (it seems all my recent builds have been those colors...oh well). I'm using the old, the faded, the scratched, and the unwanted in this build.

Here's what I have so far.

-Chrome Pro-X Frame and Forks
-Repop Decals
-Chrome Araya 7X copies w/ generic chrome hubs and stainless spokes
-Used faded gold Torker 6 bolt stem (a member of another board was nice enough to let me make payments good2.gif )
-Black Kashimax Aero
-Chrome Dyno Drainpipe (great for tall guys like me)
-Used X-Calliber seat post clamp
-Chrome Ashtabula 1 pc. cranks w/ black Sugino spider
-Used really faded gold 44t SunTour chainring
-Gold gnarly looking used Race Inc bars
-Used clear Ame grips
-Used and beat Shimano DX pedals
-Used Nickel no name chain
-MX1000 used faded gold front and rear brake

I'm really only missing the bb and headset. I'll scrounge around some more tomorrow to see what I can put together. My goal is to have the bike cleaned up and ready to ride by the end of January.

Was going to put a pic of mine up but my internet service cancelled their pic host site so I will have join another service. But first I have a Tioga one-piece crank in it that I painted black (originaly white), going to take it out and strip paint to polish, will look better. Love that mag article, $409 and only got a one-piece crank back then, wow.
hiatt
I remember getting home with my brand new Pro-X and building it up. Soon as I tightend the rear wheel the first time half the chrome flaked off the dropouts. I was mad to say the least. A friend of mine got one and his did the same. He wound up stripping his and painted it white, lol.
jipster43
My build has been finished for several weeks now, and I've been riding around in the basement on it. I've taken a million pics of it, but my MAC is currently in the shop getting refurbished. When it's fixed I'll be postin' pics. Here's what it wound up getting:

Chrome Torker Pro X frame/fork
silver pro neck stem
candy apple red microline V bars (NOS)
red weinman brake, lever, cable
red bullseye front hub laced to blue ACS Z rim w/red spokes and yellow snakebelly
blue Campy rear hub laced to blue ACS Z rim w/red spokes (Ooolala!) and yellow comp II
red Dura Ace cranks w/blue chainring and turquoise bolts
yellow Kingsbury pedals
blue Uni Seat/post
red suntour seatclamp

This bike is very 1979/80, but comfy. The downtube is enormous. The whole frame looks enormous. I must admit the microline bars don't do it justice, but they look boss as all get out! I just wish I could post pics of the bugger.

Does anyone have pics of what Torker Team Bars look like when not clamped in?

thats Conan...I let him out at night to guard the perimeter, lol.

I dreamt that I saved a Rottie's life last night. Some fella' shot the family pet during a domestic dispute and I rushed it to the vet. The vet managed to save it and then handed me the bill for $905. I thought that was pretty reasonable considering the circumstances, but I really didn't want to pay it, so I woke up.

I'm gonna' have my wife help me with some pics of the Pro-X. Maybe I'll get 'em posted soon.

I have a custom made kevlar vest I can strap on him to stop those bullets. Got the paint off the crank but it wasn't shiney underneath, kinda grey.

If this works it will be a new era of Vintage enthusiasm for me.

How was the fork decal applied on the non-drive side fork?

Actually, I could use some assistance in knowing just where exactly all the decals go on the Pro-X frame & fork.

Thanks!

Here is my survivor, It was built in Dec. 82. It is a Torker 280x Pro, it is an inch longer than the280x. Check out the new head badge. The name 280 came from the price of the bike as a complete package.

Here is the left fork of my all original 1983 Pro-X

Criscobath
It appears I might have the wrong decals... My fork decals are missing the two yellow bars.

I also have a question about the headtube decal. Was their white on the headtube decal, or did the chrome show through?
