I acquired Dave Guinn’s Cook cruiser last year from his son Robbie and I am trying to gather some info on his involvement with the NBL. I know he was Chairman of the board, President and I was told Vice President. But I want to find out more info on the dates and years he held these positions and any other info I can on his involvement with the NBL.

I also want to find out more info on his involvement with Cook Bros. he and his son’s were sponsored by Cook Bros. but that is all I know. They also had a cousin sponsored by MCS.

A friend of mine who raced with them in the late 70’s- late 80’s knows the Guinn family well but hasn’t talked to them in a few years and he can’t remember allot of the info I am trying to gather up. I have been trying to contact Robbie since I bought the bike but he was between houses at that time so that is a dead end.

I want to restore the bike but I would like to find out more info first, so if anyone has any info or knows where I can find it, PLEASE let me know.

Also if anyone is from St.Louis and knows how I can contact Robbie, please let me know that as well.

Thanks!

Ken,

Hey what's up? I used to ride with Gossrau a little bit and also used rode with the younger Dave Guinn. I knew Robbie also but not as well, he was a few years younger. I went to a couple of state races with the family. I'm still in contact with Matt from time to time. Matt was their cousin that rode for MCS and was also one of the first pros to teach at Woodward. Matt, Gossrau and I all lived within three or four miles of each other and attended the same high school. Those guys were clowns (in a very good, hilarious way). I see you're from St. Louis so maybe you'll know these spots- Matt lived right by Riverview Gardens high school, Paul lived in Bellefontaine Neighbors, right past Bob Russell Park and the Guinns's used to live in Bridgeton which is out by 270 and St Charles Rock Road.

I can try to get in touch with Big Dave's ex wife Rosie, I haven't spoken to her since I was a teenager but have a close friend that knows her.
As far as Cook Bros, I know Dave, Robbie and little Dave were sponsored by them but I don't know if he had anything more to do with it than that. When I met those guys, little David and I were 15, they were starting to get out of racing. That would have been 1983. I'm pretty sure that was the last year he was the President. I have no idea what year he started. I'm pretty sure Tedesco took over after that. Also, there's an old BMXA cover with Timmy Judge doing his thing on the cover. I think he's riding for Thruster or something like that. There's a bunch of people standing on the side of the track and one of them is the younger Dave Guinn in his Cook Bros leathers.

If you want, hit me up with a PM and we can try to figure this out. I'd love to see how the family is doing.

Donald

Ken, one more thing- whose your friend that used to race with those guys? Just curious if I knew him.

Thank You!

I knew someone on here had to know them, I would also like to find some printable info and photos to display with the bike. So if anyone has anything, PLEASE let me know.

I just caught this thread and tought I would throw this trivia question out: What was young Dave Guinn's nick name (as was painted on his Bell Moto III)?

Jim,

Big Dave or little Dave? I should know this but I can't remember.
