Very frustrated trying to get my 24x1.75 maxxis h.r. tire to inflate and seal on an alienation rim. Has anyone else had trouble with this rim or tire? I get to about 10psi and the tire lifts off the rim every time. Its like the tire is just too big for the rim...or the rim just wont hold the bead. I thought I had it seated on the 5th or 6th go around and I got about 45psi in, started installing the wheel, and the tire starts to walk off the rim with the subsequent kaboom. (all those years of compiii's and araya's never an issue...) One new tube and 10 more attempts, no joy, the tire walks every time. I have tried a few different brands of tubes as well., all in a 24x1.75 size.

I have had this problem with sun cruiser wheels and comp 3s years ago. Seems like the rims were a different diameter than araya;s. Have some old gt aa tires you can;t even install on those rims. You might have to use another brand of tire. Just my experiance. Also check your bead slowly air them up and hold the tire in if it starts to blow off.

Well, after several more attempts, I gave up and went with a different brand of tire. A supercross bluestreak. It did the exact same thing, but I was able to get it inflated on the third try. These rims have kind of a small lip for the tire bead to catch, and the weld on the seam isnt ground down very well, although once I finally got a tire to seat, and inflated it, so far its stayed on the rim. We'll see if it can stay in place...

Is the tire walking off at the seam? Perhaps the prominent weld is not letting the tire bead grip the lip on the rim? As the pressure increases it may be levering the tire right off of the rim. I have had to file the seams on various rims because the welds were not very clean...

I have had problems centering some tires on Tuff Wheels because there is no lip, but once they are centered they stay on OK... But the Tuff Wheels also don't have any welds that might interfere with the tire settling in...

Every time I inflate it (maxxix holy roller), it decides to slip out of the rim in a different spot. I cleaned up around the weld, so it matches the rest of the rim lip, even holding the tire in place in 4 places around the rim, it wants to work its way out, the tire bead just wont stay in. I think its a combination of a rim that was designed with a not very agressive lip, and maybe a very slightly larger than average tire. The blue streak did slip out several times as well, but it did hold eventually, it may have been a very slight difference, but just enough to grab.

Bizarre. Are you using a compressor, or floor pump? Compressors can inflate too quickly. Maybe scuff the rims lip, or try to wipe off the waxy film that's on new tires.

Very strange...

I have the Alienation Black Sheep rims on my FIT CR 24 with the stock Cheng Shin tires. I did have to to a bit of alignment on the beads when I was inflating them after I got the bike out of the box, with my hand-pump but I did not take them all the way off... I'll have to pull one off to get an idea of where the bead sits in the rim. I was actually thinking about going with 1.85 Holy Rollers on them, so if I give that a try I'll let you know if it works or how I did it...

i have the same rims and i'm having the same problems with intense micro knobby tires doing the same thing. i have a set of maxxis holly rollers and they go on fine.
i even have a set of tioga fs 100 urban tires, and they go on with no probs.
i have been on the phone with intense and with the guys from alienation. each other is pointing the finger at the other person.my new cruiser has been down all summer because of this problem.
alienation told me that if its the rim thats bad they will take care of me.same withy intense.
but DAMN! i'm getting tired of this crap. build your parts right people.
i'm just about ready to sell my cruiser.

I fitted the Holy Roller that wouldnt grab the alienation rim, onto an alex double wall, and it fit first try. Im thinking this rim has too small of a lip for some tires.
