Does anyone have, or has anyone seen a set of the circa 1997 tangent pads? I remember they were kind of expensive for a padset back when I took racing seriously, so I never bought them. (had to save up for my answer forks and flight 2's =P) But I just recently bought another 20" and I'd really like to have a set of these.
Problem is, I can't find even a TRACE of their existence anywhere on the web. Some people here must remember them; they were one flat color (i've only seen them in red and black) and said "tangent" in a white typface across them. Even if you don't have any, or havent seen any, do you even know what Im talking about? The utter dearth of information about them on the web makes me believe I'm getting the brand name wrong or something.
Anyway, i'd appreciate any help you could lend me. Of course, if you have a set (particularly in black) I'm definitely looking to buy.

I had a grey set, missing something or other right now, would have to look for it. I do know that the matching grey plate is still in my posession.
The whole tangent thing back thing was more an artistic exercise in anamorphic design, and I loved it. There was a sense of practicality in how the pads were designed to stay in place and provide more coverage. Their fabric was really nice too, cordura nylon if i'm not mistaken, great stitching.
I can try and drag out what I have, but I've seen other members on here with them on complete builds. Might be easier to source pics from them.
If nothing's up by tomorrow, I'll get out the cam.
I had them on a bike that was stolen several years back. A friend of mine has actually seen the bike twice since then (once recently) but hasn't been able to steal it back! There were still on there. Black.

The original Tangent designs ceased production in 1998. The current- Tangent Products Co. is run and operated by former A pro racer and Tangent/EBS factory rider Rich Pelton, AKA "the Dirt Merchant". They have taken the original spirit of the company and ran with it. None of the pre 1998 designs tranfered over simply because the sport had progressed and the original designs were cost prohibitive to manufacture in such short runs. It is possible to obtain original padsets and plates from the former designer and in some rare instances the handmade numbers that the sponsored racers ran.

Last time I seen him was in 2002, working for Dirt Camp, the mountain bike training people, in Lake Tahoe. He was running a a stem pad on his ride. I mentioned it and began talking old BMX. Turns out he was "tangent dave". Although he had only good words about the new " Tangent Products" I wanted to find out about the older stuff like the embroidered padwraps, the ultra rare mudbeam plate and other product only seen on the sponsored racers or in NorCal. I bugged him and did get a card that said, speederdog7@ ? . it works for gmail and comcast. Although I did get an original green pro plate with a trick pair of custom blue digits that made me feel like throwing a flatie, I do no believe he is active in "selling" product. good luck ='monocoquemike' date='Oct 30 2009, 11:29 PM' post='886190']

I have a navy blue mtb stem pad.
I also have one of the original factory Tangent jerseys (white cotton long sleeve tee with red and black screen printing).
Todd Slavik ran all the Tangent stuff and had some rad contrasting colored padsets. I'll try to find a photo.
I met Tangent Dave at Slavik's house when he was in town for a national.
